The Senior Director of Tax - EMEA is the lead tax person in Europe and has overall responsibility for the tax function for the EMEA region. This role will be responsible for overall regional tax strategy in the context of our overall global tax strategy, which includes developing, implementing, maintaining and defending the strategy. Further, this role will be responsible for the overall tax operations (e.g., compliance and related advice, tax planning, tax audits, assisting with tax portions of financial audits, post-merger integration, closely working with the business on tax issues, ad-hoc tax projects). This role will report to the Head of International Tax in San Francisco and manage a team of tax professionals located in Dublin.
Specific responsibilities:
• Ensuring the tax obligations of the group are met in a complete, detailed and timely manner and appropriate tax advice is provided to the business.
• Develop, implement, maintain, and defend tax strategies that align with the growth of the business.
• Proactively identifying and advising on potential tax exposures as well as mitigating those potential exposures.
• Provide appropriate support to the business around issues such as the structuring of contracts, employee taxes, employee movements, etc.
• Monitor developments in tax legislation and administration in the region and take appropriate action in respect of developments that may impact Salesforce.
• Lead and manage reviews by taxation authorities within the region and any disputes with those authorities.
• Provide support to the VP of International Tax in respect of cross-border financing and merger and acquisition activity within the region.
• Provide support to the Global Transfer Team in respect of the development of appropriate transfer pricing documentation and methodologies.
• Lead in researching and providing solutions related to taxation queries raised by internal and external parties with research support when necessary.
• Responsible for tax provision in the region and coordinating with the Global provision on all tax accounting and related provision items (e.g. transaction accounting, purchase price accounting etc.).
• Assist with ad-hoc tax projects as and when they arise. Develop relationships with external advisers as appropriate.
• Maintain strong communication with the San Francisco office & work closely with the accounting team in Switzerland.
To be considered for this role you will be Degree qualified in a relevant Business, Commerce or Accounting with CA/CPA and preferably a postgraduate qualification in a Tax-specific domain.
Skills, experience and attributes:
• At least 12+ years tax experience, preferably from a Big 4 environment and/or in a similar regional tax role.
• International tax experience of at least 8-10 years in international tax.
• Transfer pricing and M&A experience.
• Ability to be hands-on and manage detailed work & produce results efficiently and effectively while understanding the impact of tax on the overall business.
• Ability to question the status-quo, proactively identify core issues impacting the group's tax obligations and seek solutions (e.g., systems and processes issues and continuous improvements).
• Knowledge of accounting concepts (US GAAP and IFRS) applicable within a multinational and hands-on experience with relevant accounting systems and tax software.
• Previous experience managing a group of tax professionals in a corporate environment.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
