The Vice President of Tax will be responsible for all aspects of the global tax function at Akamai. This person will interface regularly with the senior leadership team in his/her role as the senior tax advisor to the company by communicating various tax matters and the related impacts to the company as well as providing valuable tax guidance on business decisions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience across a wide range of tax matters within a large publicly traded multinational high-tech company.
About the Team
The Akamai tax team is part of Akamai’s Corporate Finance organization and is responsible for all US and global income tax operations, including preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision, compliance and reporting of all US and global taxes, special projects including acquisition analysis and integration, and support for controversy. The team is located in our headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts with additional global resources at our finance center in Krakow, Poland.
Responsibilities
Oversight of all tax related matters including tax compliance, SEC reporting, tax planning, support for acquisitions, and tax strategy.
• Leadership of the quarterly and annual tax provision process to ensure accurate and timely tax accounting and disclosure, including working with external auditors to provide information to assist them in their review or audit of the tax provision.
• Oversee the preparation of domestic and international income tax filings.
• Responsible for the oversight of sales, property and other tax filings.
• Ensure compliance with all tax reporting requirements of all legal entities in accordance with tax-related SOX internal controls.
Leadership responsibility for the tax department, including:
• Representation of Akamai and the Akamai tax function externally.
• Managing and develop staff and creating a positive environment whereby they are challenged, motivated, and groomed for advancement within the department.
• Driving process improvement initiatives around streamlining the tax provision process and other potential tax process improvements.
Contribution as a leader to the organization, overall:
• Collaborate with finance, legal and business development groups on due diligence for any potential M&A activity; effectively communicate potential tax implications and make recommendations for cost efficient results
• Effectively manage relationships with outside global tax advisors.
• Research, suggest and implement new and meaningful tax strategies.
• Communicate with and educate executives on tax implications of various matters including any changes to the business and new tax legislation.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree, Masters in Taxation, CPA or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 15 to 20 years of corporate tax experience including Big 4 public accounting at the senior director level or equivalent experience in a publicly traded multinational corporation.
Additional Skills Required
• Firm understanding of financial accounting practices and an In-depth knowledge of FAS109/ASC740 reporting standards.
• Experience with M&A, including international tax issues.
• Strong Federal Sub C background with a focus on research and planning.
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to effectively disseminate information to others across the organization in a clear, easily understood manner.
• Ability to represent Akamai externally with tax authorities, third parties, and others, and to influence and drive decisions
• Strong planning, operational, and process improvement skills. A commitment to and desire to improve the tax team and activities including an understanding processes and continuous process improvement.
• Experience attracting, hiring, retaining, and developing high-performing teams and individuals. A leader that is known for building organizational capability through diverse and deep talent pipelines. A motivating executive capable of instilling excitement and inspiring others.
• Highly collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively and drive cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed environment and build successful relationships with various stakeholders.
• Experience successfully interacting, presenting to, and influencing senior leadership.
Desired Qualifications
• Experience within the high tech industry strongly preferred.
• Experience with Hyperion, OneSource, and Oracle a plus.
