DESCRIPTION
Amazon Lumberyard is a free AAA game engine deeply integrated with AWS and Twitch – with full source. The Lumberyard team aspires to help game developers create the highest quality games, engage massive communities of fans, and connect their games to the vast compute and storage of the cloud.

Amazon Lumberyard is seeking a technical director who will lead an innovative development team in Irvine to deliver exciting and competitive new features. With a technical background and proven game development experience, the technical director is uniquely qualified to understand the big picture of game engine development. As a technical director you will work with both internal and external customers, gather metrics, think strategically, and define requirements for the engineers on our team. A successful candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to successfully work across groups and drive alignment toward goals.
Within the first year, we expect this leader to:
• Become an expert on Lumberyard, with a focus on the areas of responsibility
• Work closely with internal and external game developer teams to build a prioritized roadmap that will lead to success
• Build strong relationships within Amazon Game Services, and with key external partners
• Work closely with the team to manage the product planning and release processes
• Deliver disruptive and deeply technical features for customers at a high quality level
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 5 years experience in the video game industry working as a software engineer, with proven experience as an engineering leader
• Experience managing projects with ambitious technical scale
• Proven ability to deliver innovative products or services and manage success through multiple releases.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and influence people and teams at every level in the organization
• Effective communicator who can serve as the central point of contact for internal and external teams
• Ability to balance competing priorities with product direction
• Deep experience working with multiplayer games, networking, or MMOs
• A passion for video games
• BS degree in computer science or applicable technical field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 7+ years of experience in the video game industry, with 5 years working as a technical leader
• Experience working with licensed game engines such as Lumberyard, Unity, or Unreal
• Proven success in a high growth environment
• Functional understanding of networking architecture and systems
• Experience working with AWS
• Experience working on distributed systems
