Amazon is reinventing the buying experience on behalf of business customers, starting with the launch of Amazon Business in North America, with an aim of developing the most innovative Business-to-Business (B2B) marketplace in the world. To expand that vision, we are recruiting leaders to make this a reality in Europe and Asia as well.
Amazon Business represents an incredible opportunity to address a vast new market segment and customer base and is an area of high investment for Amazon. We are focused on building solutions to enable business customers to discover, research, and buy products and services from a vast selection, across multiple devices, marketplaces and regions. Our customer base encompasses other institutions that have specialized needs – governments, educational institutions, health care providers and non-profits. Together, like businesses, these customers have different needs than the traditional Amazon customers and thus we have to reinvent everything from how we display our selections to price our products, and provide the best customer experience.
Position Summary
We are looking for a GM for Amazon Business Japan with proven experiences in thought leadership, detailed execution, and people development to launch, lead and expand the Amazon Business team in Japan. You will have four responsibilities, including (1) leading a product management function that helps redefine the product roadmap for Japan, combining both global programs and Japan-specific features, (2) creating a sales organization to each out to both small and large enterprises, (3) managing a marketing team, and (4) coordinating with the many other Amazon functions that are critical to the success of Amazon Business, such as Retail Category Management, Operations, Customer Service and our third party Marketplace. In addition, the leader will develop and implement operating practices, process, and metrics.
As a senior leader on the Amazon Business International team, this individual will also be expected to play a key role in influencing and defining the overall long-term strategy for the global Amazon Business initiatives. This role will be based in Amazon’s Japan headquarter offices, in Tokyo, and report to the Vice President of Amazon Business International, who is based in Seattle, WA., USA.
Key Responsibilities
• Adapt the global product roadmap for Japan, taking into account both global engineering capabilities and the needs of local customers
• Hire and develop leaders for the product management, sales and marketing functions
• Define the overall account management, marketing and customer success strategy for Amazon’s B2B initiative in Japan
• Design customer engagement processes that address the various customer segments including small businesses, large enterprises, end-user and senior procurement executives
• Understand competitive offerings in Japan and ensure that we understand how our potential and current customers respond to competitive offers
• Monitor and address all critical inputs – selections, pricing, availability, customer experience, financing, reporting and analytics, delivery and customer service
• Coordinate customer engagement activities with other Amazon business units
• Work closely with the global Amazon Business product management team to establish and develop the long-term roadmap to grow Amazon B2B
• Establish and deploy account management, marketing and customers support processes and metrics
• Develop and nurture relationships with key 3rd party organizations such as analysts, procurement platforms, and partners
• Become a senior spokesperson for the vision and direction of Amazon’s B2B initiative in Japan
• Help evangelize the Amazon Business initiative within Amazon to other business units
• Coordinate with category teams for messaging and cross promotional opportunities
• Develop individual and team performance standards
• Build effective mechanisms for providing customer feedback and voice of customer to internal teams
• Develop daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting to objectively track progress, goals and to provide customer insights
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University degree required
MBA, additional technical or analytical qualification preferred
Fluent written and spoken English is required
Experience
• Proven experience in leadership roles across relevant functions, such as product management, retail category management, sales, account management, marketing, and customer engagement.
• Proven ability to analyze market opportunities, engage and negotiate with strategic customers, and define new areas of innovation
• Demonstrated ability to develop solutions and product roadmap.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Experience include:
• Experience leading and scaling large and diverse organizations. Exhibits strong organizational design skills.
• Experience with B2B marketplaces or networks
• Experience with vendor and customer negotiations, pricing and promotion, inventory management, and/or product development.
• Experience working with complex technical roadmaps
• P&L responsibility, strong business acumen, and a proven track record of growing top-line and bottom-line.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems. In particular, identifying customer needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs.
• Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in the heat of battle.
