New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations.
Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.
Responsibilities
• Planning and directing the sales and marketing efforts of Investment Product Consultants, coordinating training and orientation within assigned zone, implementing new and enhanced sales strategies. Achieve Zone sales goals of retirement products (Mutual Funds, Income, Variable and Fixed Annuities)
• Direct activities of product consultants to ensure sales objectives are achieved and exceeded
• Responsible for meeting and exceeding product sales goals in assigned zone.
• Coordinate field sales efforts with National Manager, Home Office Management, and Investment Product Consultant Team
• Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with field management, agents and product consultants
• Conduct meetings and training sessions on a group and individual basis so that consultants are kept abreast of all aspects of products. Assist consultants with sales situation analysis and in closing large cases
• Manage budget of consultants
• Ensure that compliance requirements are met
• Provide high quality service and product information to acquire new assets and retain assets
Qualifications
• Bachelor or higher degree preferred
• 10 years of field sales experience
• Wholesaler for a minimum of 5 years
• Series 6, 63 required
• Highly respected in their GOs and the Agency distribution
• Has a track record of continued sales success
• Comprehensive knowledge of regulations pertaining to products
• Strong communication and presentation skills – ability to effectively convey our priorities and creatively wholesale our products
• Strong leadership – supports our initiatives, takes initiative, and good problem solver
• Sound decision maker
• Strong management skills
• Ability to manage a diverse workforce
