Our Information Technology department is seeking a Director of Software Engineer for our Personal Lines IT Organization to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA Corporate Headquarters.
Position summary:
This role offers the opportunity to drive strategic leadership with tactical execution, hands-on development and management skills. It leads the Delivery and Influences the Design of the Personal Lines Application Architecture Strategy, matures our DevOps capabilities and champions our adoption of Agile Software Development. It influences our integration architecture and related business and technology strategies to enhance our current capabilities, deliver new solutions, and enable rapid innovation.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
•Lead software engineering teams focused on delivering and maintaining Personal Lines Sales and Service platforms, modernizing application architecture and capabilities, and modernizing software development practices and platforms
•Act as Application Development Champion for DevSecOps, assisting architecture and Program Delivery to establish the processes and tools to be used; Foster IT wide maturity, adoption of software development best practices, provide technical guidance for teams and organizational change management
•Drive the maturation of the Program’s adoption of an Agile Development Methodology including tools and practices. Establish, mentor and support Agile Technical Coaching function ensuring collaboration and maturation of Agile Developer capabilities.
•Work with Customers/Stakeholders to understand critical Business Success Factors and key Performance Indicators to be managed, negotiate desired Service Levels and manage Business Risks and facilitate development of dashboards reflecting experience
•Ensure Development Strategy and System Architecture is aligned with Business and IT strategic objectives and technology standards.
•Lead and direct staff in areas of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with the company’s strategic direction. Partner with HR and Talent Development to ensure strong career path planning with an eye for succession pipelines future leadership roles.
•Provide strategic leadership in creating and implementing programs and processes and/or leading IT operational functions within the Personal Lines Program. Will assist Program, Business and Technical Leadership in strategy formulation with a primary focus on the successful implementation of set strategies.
•Will work with Program Leadership to develop annual budget and is responsible for managing their budget within their cost centers.
•Will be directly involved and providing leadership and support for the Production Health and Stability of Personal Lines Technical Platforms. This includes involvement in elevated issues arising from daily activities. Will developed key relationships with important business partners and vendors with ability to set expectations, change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
•Responsible for establishing and maintaining Vendor relationships ensuring agreed upon contractual SLA’s are being delivered by Strategic Partners.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
•Typically has 10 to 15 years of IT and business/industry work experience, with at least 7 years of leadership experience and 5+ years managing projects and/or project portfolios and/or leading IT operational areas.
•Should have in-depth, hands-on knowledge of modern technologies and a proven willingness to stay knowledgeable about and introduce new technologies that would enhance our businesses.
•Should have experience in implementing change within an organization including DevSecOps and Agile Transformations
•Has strong Business Partner Relationship and Vendor Management skills.
