Position Summary:
With the Foundation poised for significant continued growth into the future, we seek a candidate who is a seasoned leader with the experience and skills to bring a strategic lens to role of finance in a mission-driven organization. The ideal candidate will be a team player invigorated by collaboration.
The Director plays a key role in furthering the Foundation’s mission by serving donors and helping the Foundation reach a growing audience. This position is responsible for overseeing finance activities and investment administration and managing the finance department staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of all accounting and investment duties, including gift, grant and fee processing from all charitable funds, issuance of fund statements, and investing & monitoring of fund assets. The Director oversees the standard financial activities of a mid-sized nonprofit including budgeting, forecasting & analysis, financial reporting, audit & tax, payables & receivables, internal controls and personnel development.
• Team Leadership
◦ Serve as a member of the Foundation’s leadership team.
◦ Develop the long-term and short-term strategic financial strategies.
◦ Oversee a team of direct reports.
◦ Provide ongoing Board and leadership support, with specific responsibility in areas of the annual audit process, support of the Investment and Audit & Risk Management Committees and the operationalization of Board investment decisions.
• Main Accounting Functions and Administration
◦ Ensure the credibility of the Foundation by providing timely and accurate analysis of financials, budgets and trends.
◦ Proactively develop, implement and maintain all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization.
◦ Play a key role to insure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
◦ Administer large, nationwide charitable remainder trust and charitable gift annuity programs.
◦ Provide human resources services for staff, primarily in salary and benefit administration.
◦ Engage in other projects for the Foundation as needed
• Audit and Tax
◦ Lead the annual audit process, manage the 990, charitable remainder trust and gift annuity Federal and State reporting requirements.

Qualifications for this position
• BS in Accounting or finance, CPA and\or MBA highly desirable.
• Competence and self-assurance in learning and using existing and new technologies.
• Minimum of ten years’ experience in accounting/finance.
• Significant experience leading and managing people.
• Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
• Ability to work on everyday details with an eye towards long-term strategy.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner, recognizing limits of authority and calling upon additional resources when required.
• Confidence and composure to represent the organization externally – on the phone, online and at events.
