Job Description
Wealth Planning Manager
The Wealth Planning Manager, in conjunction with the Wealth Management leadership team, is responsible for developing, leading and fully integrating the planning focus of the wealth planning group. The Wealth Planning Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that our planning based approach is successfully communicated to the wealth management teams, business partners, clients and prospects.
Responsibilities:
Successfully develop strategies for enhancing and executing on the client discovery process that will drive business growth through the development of new business opportunities and the expansion of existing client relationships. Coach and develop planners in accordance with these strategies.
Ensure that planners are fully integrated in all existing target relationships, including the development and execution of complete wealth plans. Working collaboratively with the Regional Managers, establish protocol for identifying target prospects and introducing planners early in the process.
Develop a consistent, high quality client deliverable to be used for all markets by all planners for target clients.
Provide thought leadership and guidance on complex technical and planning issues such as business succession, estate reduction, taxation issues, etc. Develop plan for effective continuing education and development of planning staff.
Supervise planning staff (including the para planners), in management of day to day activities and oversee the professional development of staff, performance reviews, salary administration and related activities.
Provide guidance and direction around the development of thought leadership on relevant and current topics to be shared with members of the team and where appropriate, clients and prospects
JD or CPA with an LLM or Master's degree in tax highly preferred
Strategic Wealth Planning
Manage and develop trusted relationships with high net worth clients (net worth of over $3,000,000).
Acting as a player/coach, maintain an active book of business with major clients throughout the footprint
Serve as the Primary wealth planner for Comerica executives and board members to deliver highly personalized and comprehensive wealth planning by gathering information, preparing comprehensive wealth plans and offering suggestions on how to help the client meet their financial goals.
Collaborate with Regional Managers to assist in managing client retention issues and effective mitigation efforts and ensure that planners are fully engaged in this effort.
Provide support for approximately 30 Business Owner Advisory specialists in all markets. Assist in the communication of our value proposition to partners in other LOB's as well as externally.
Develop and implement a strategic focus around cultivating COI's for all Sr Wealth Planning professionals and coordinate outreach with Regional Managers, including seminars, lunch and learns etc.
Training/Subject Matter Expert
Write and edit wealth planning commentaries as a subject matter expert and publish monthly on Connect.
Participate as member of the National Sales Team to help develop strategies for Wealth Management nationally to achieve its sales/revenue goals.
Travel
Occasional Travel is required of this position.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
• 10 years of experience in Wealth Planning involving individual income tax, estate planning, generation skipping and gift tax and techniques to eliminate tax consequences
• 10 years of experience in employee benefits (pension, stock options, 401(k), 403b, etc.) and business owner issues
• 7 years of experience presenting to senior executives and high net worth clients
• 7 years of experience problem resolution
• 5 years of experience in project management
