The Decision Support Center of Excellence (DSCOE) in Corporate Planning was established to centralize financial planning and analysis activities across American Express. The Senior Financial Analyst role will support financial planning, reporting and results analysis activities for the Global Consumer Services Group (GCSG).
Global Consumer Services offers a diverse set of products to Card members in the US and International markets, ranging from the iconic Gold and Platinum cards to the American Express Everyday and Blue Cash credit cards. Our team supports GCSG, and in particular the US market, by providing financial results analysis for our partners in the business, to help direct strategic decision making in the Consumer organization.
This role will be responsible for owning and driving delivery of output and insights for the Global Consumer segment operating expense P&L. The analyst will work very closely with both US and International teams in the GCSG DSCOE, as well as the LFO Analytics & Business Planning team to create content and understand the key trends and messages across GCSG. This includes monthly reporting, ad-hoc analytics and financial forecasts, focused around Consumer expenses but not limited to that in scope. The role requires the ability to work across teams in order to understand business results across different Consumer teams and markets, as well as the ability to distill detailed information into key messages for senior management discussions.
As a critical point of contact for Global Consumer across the Planning & Analysis community and Finance groups, this position requires a highly motivated individual with an ability to build relationships, influence multiple stakeholder groups and drive results, all with a proactive “can do” attitude.
Responsibilities
• Managing the monthly financial close processes to ensure accuracy of the results as well as providing detail on variances to prior year, plan and outlook and determining the impact on the balance-of-year P&L
• Managing the development of the long range plan, in collaboration with CP&A and LFO teams
• Driving change management, process enhancements and streamlining core processes using Finance Forward tools and mandate
• Building, leveraging, and maintaining key partnerships with business partners and key stakeholder
• Lead projects within GCSG DSCOE team as well the greater DSCOE organization and ensure alignment with Finance Forward initiatives
• Perform ad-hoc strategic analyses to develop insights and recommendations
• Responsible for managing various ad-hoc reporting requirements at both GCSG and US level
The role will enable the successful candidate to build an end-to-end understanding of the Global Consumer Business and organization, insights into key trends and linkage to the AXP results and external investor view, working knowledge of FP&A process and methodology, as well as significantly enhance soft skills as a key success factor in the role.

Required Qualifications
• Minimum 2-3 years of accounting/financial reporting and analysis experience
• Accounting/Finance degree and/or MBA preferred
• Knowledge of the financial reporting processes and an understanding of Hyperion Essbase is a plus. Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Oracle, OBI, Ariba, and TM1
• SQL & Cornerstone experience is also preferred
• Highly analytical, including modelling experience with proven ability to drive analytical output aimed at identifying trends, developing key insights and required decisions for senior management

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
• Must have a high degree of initiative, integrity, dedication, and ability to adapt effectively in a changing environment
• Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively
