Overview
Our Client, a prestigious nonprofit organization in NYC is seeking a Budget Manager to join their team. The Budget Manager is a vital member of the Finance Team, and works with the General Ledger, Budgeting, Grants, Payroll, Billing and Receivable functions. This position reports to the Senior Director of Finance and requires a detail-oriented, highly motivated and organized individual who has experience with sophisticated accounting software (ERP systems). The individual must be able to work independently, possess problem solving ability and build productive working relationships with staff based in the headquarters and around the country. S/he must thrive in a fast-paced, “all hands on deck” work environment in which flexibility is expected. Good communications skills a must.
Essential Duties
Responsibilities:
• Budget/Grants
◦ Assist in preparation of annual budget and related quarterly recasts throughout the year
◦ Prepare monthly reports (Actual vs Budget) for all grants outstanding
◦ Calculate the GAAP “release of net assets” quarterly for all grants with donor restrictions
◦ Maintain and update internal budget templates
◦ Update accounting software with budget information
◦ Collect and keep track of all budget changes throughout the year
◦ Prepare monthly internal reports for all restricted funding in association with the closing schedule
◦ Work in conjunction with IA to prepare budgets for grant proposals
◦ Connect funding sources with the payroll and budget
• General accounting/departmental collaboration
◦ Complete schedules and assist with annual audit
◦ Accounting for Contract revenue earned from the organizations activities
◦ Serve as back-up for payroll
• Expense Reimbursements
◦ Manage Concur software to ensure seamless processing of expense reports
◦ Review submitted reports for proper account coding
◦ Use professional judgment to identify and research questionable expenses
◦ Ensure that all expense reports are submitted in accordance with the assigned monthly deadline and proper approval is obtained
◦ Prepare and integrate related journal entries into the financial system
• Endowment Investment Accounts
◦ Analyze and record the gains/losses of investment activities for 2 of our endowments
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Educational/Training Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or finance related field
• MBA preferred
Experience:
• 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in a not-for-profit setting
• 3 -5 years’ progressive experience with grants/budgets i.e. developing, accounting and reporting to funders
• Experience with ERP systems such as Peoplesoft, Oracle or similar desired
Licenses/Certifications:
• CPA preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of “best practices” in financial accounting and audits
• Ability to draft budgets and grants proposals is required
• Self-starter with good organization skills and the ability to work independently
• Superior knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other MS products
• Ability to pay attention to details and deliver under deadline pressure
