PAC & Grassroots Manager
Grant Thornton LLP Public Policy and Governmental Affairs Group (Public Policy) is seeking a highly-motivated PAC & Grassroots Manager to join our Washington, DC Public Policy team. This individual will develop and execute the strategic agenda for all PAC & Grassroots activity reporting directly to the National Managing Principal of Public Policy, also working closely with the firms Finance and Legal teams. This individual will play an instrumental role in leveraging the firms’ million dollar PAC.
General Responsibilities:
PAC Management
Develop and implement overall Political Action Committee strategy including administration, compliance, fundraising and participation goals, and manage the budget disbursement process to maximize political support and strategic impact. Manage the annual solicitation, creating the campaign, coordinating the outreach conducted by the firm’s leadership, and overseeing the implementation of peer-to-peer activities. Manage the quarterly meetings of the GT PAC Board. In conjunction with the National Managing Principal of Public Policy, create content regarding PAC activities for the firm’s annual meeting.
Grassroots Management and Outreach
Direct the grassroots program and overall strategic plan for advocacy, including the creation and maintenance of the grassroots network and the development of innovative approaches to grassroots strategies and tactics. Lead on updating the GT PAC website and drafting the annual report and summer newsletter. In addition, this individual will help the team in managing the Lead Relationship Partner program which connects partners from around the firm with their respective Representatives/Senators.
Federal and State Compliance Activities
In conjunction with the internal Legal team, manage the monthly FEC reporting process. Assist federal and state compliance matters including, but not limited to, inquiries to the internal Political Compliance Help Desk. In conjunction with the external legal counsel, manage filing all federal lobbying disclosure reports and state lobbying reports.
Congressional Outreach
Participate in Public Policy’s congressional outreach efforts, which may include representing the firm at PAC events; attending congressional and/or regulatory hearings and association/firm meetings; provide solid knowledge of issues under discussion; and attend other political events that increase the visibility of GT PAC and Grant Thornton. Track election information and provide the Public Policy team with updates throughout an election cycle.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Public Policy, or related field
• 3-5 years of political action committee experience, including administration, development and implementation of effective PAC campaigns; disbursement management
• 3-5 years of tax and or financial services industry experience highly preferred
• Hill experience and or fiscal fundraising preferred
• Keen knowledge of campaign finance laws at federal and state levels; working knowledge of legislative processes at federal and state levels; strong interest in politics and election process; knowledge of non-connected PACs highly preferred
• Awareness of political sensitivities/insight; possesses tact and diplomacy
• Insider’s knowledge of congressional members and candidates, their stance on financial and tax related issues, and corresponding fundraising efforts that would best promote the firm’s public policy objectives
• Enthusiasm and creative approach to fundraising; ability to capture the imagination of others and motivate them while demonstrating a positive, energizing style; ability to train and manage colleagues as ambassadors of the PAC and grassroots programs
• Ability to quickly obtain a working knowledge of other departments, such as HRIS, Accounting, Payroll and IT
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
