The Role
As an Individual Life Underwriter for Lincoln’s Individual Life TermAccel Team, you have the responsibility of underwriting individual life insurance applications up to $1,000,000. As an Underwriter, you will have the capacity and responsibility to evaluate risk to determine individual’s insurability adhering to medical & financial underwriting guidelines as well as gain exposure to automated underwriting.
Responsibilities
Underwriting
• Underwrites life insurance applications making underwriting determinations of the terms, coverage and pricing by evaluating applicant data including medical reports, and risk analysis and modification
• Audits and approves determinations for less complex cases to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and policies.
• Develops knowledge of the automated underwriting process and the associated rules, to ensure outcomes are consistent with our underwriting guidelines and philosophy.
• Identifies, documents, and presents to internal stakeholders findings that support process improvement.
• Develops relationships with new business staff to achieve team goals
• Performs and delivers on routine assignments and projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge
• Promotes and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and departmental and enterprise initiatives
• Identifies and communicates to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality
• Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments and trends, assess the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
Education
• Undergraduate Degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
Experience
• 1-3 years of experience in Underwriting Individual Life Insurance
• Strong comfort level with Technology and Innovation
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures
• Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail
• Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment and be adaptable to changing priorities
• A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
• Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
• Drives performance targets to completion
