Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Strategic Marketing Consultants acts as a critical liaison between the Financial Advisor leadership team and Corporate Marketing. This person is also responsible for the ongoing coaching and leadership of the Strategic Marketing Consultant’s in the other Divisions. This leader will build an extensive working knowledge of the different markets and business needs of District Advisors within a specific Division(s) and will provide value to all business practices with the Division(s) in the form of strategic marketing consultation. The result will be that the Financial Advisor leaders (DAO through DA) will have a clear understanding of the specific market opportunities within their reach as well as the unique attributes and advantages First Command offers the identified markets. Working closely with field leaders in a consultative role, the Strategic Marketing Consultant will help to fashion specific Division/District market strategies to leverage the firm’s strengths, values and offerings as well as the tools and capabilities delivered by Marketing. As Director you will not only look at the Division/Districts, but with the leadership of your team look to derive strategies at the corporate level.
Responsibilities
• Lead DAOs, VPDTs and DAs step-by-step through a strategic market planning process
• Lead, train and develop the Strategic Marketing Consultant role
• Represent the SMC role and Marketing role on key company projects and initiatives
• Implement and execute on strategic initiatives through the SMC team
• Champion the company brand and core values at Field offices and at client events
• Assist Field Leadership in formulating comprehensive and realistic strategies for growing the business practices within their control, maximizing opportunities with both existing and prospective clients
• Help field leaders build clear implementation plans to maximize the penetration of their local identified markets, monitoring results throughout the implementation cycle
• Identify practical and measurable programs to generate referrals, develop new business leads and cross-sell additional services to existing clients, leveraging the extensive set of tools provided by the Marketing department
• Establish and maintain a clear channel of two-way communications between Field Leaders within a specific Division or group of Divisions and the Marketing team, acting as a single point of contact for all Advisors within the Division(s) and serving as the primary voice to those same Advisors
• Serve as a consultant to the DAO on all marketing matters based on a strong and clear understanding of the DAOs operating environment, business development goals as well as the market trends affecting his/her Division
• Act as lead liaison for military marketing planning and initiatives
Supervisory Responsibility
• Direct supervision of a team of 4 while also executing the role as a division strategic marketing consultant (player-coach)
• Management and oversight of national military marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives
• Oversight of SMC team goals and team performance
• Budget accountability for team travel expenses
• Timely and accurate reporting of regional marketing ROI, marketing metrics and performance
• Foster innovation, collaboration, advocacy among and on behalf of the SMC team
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing emphasis strongly preferred
• MBA with an emphasis on Marketing preferred
Work Experience
• 7-10 years of demonstrated success in a marketing and/or sales leadership role
• 3-5 years in marketing (Strategic Marketing Consultant only)
• Executive presence and proven decision-making ability
• Experience in effectively leading diverse teams, often in a virtual team environment
• Experience in the financial services industry
• Strategic consulting experience
• Ability to think at the strategic level and translate strategy into local marketing initiatives
• Prior active duty military experience preferred
Certifications
• FINRA Series 6, or 7; Series 65 preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• A firm understanding of different marketing mediums and the application of those mediums in achieving specific business development goals
• An expert understanding of all branches of the US military and experience creating military marketing initiatives or willingness to develop
• Strong relationship management skills and ability to quickly assesses opportunities, advise and collaborate for company, division and individual growth
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong negotiation skills for positive outcomes
• Able to understand, interpret, and translate complex financial marketing issues
• Ability to think strategically and creatively to resolve problems
• Ability to effectively lead a team
• Ability to work extremely well with others
• Ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline
• A strong attention to detail
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Proficiency in digital and social media marketing
• Proficiency in the use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools, (Microsoft Dynamics preferred)
• Computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• 40 – 50% required travel
