General Description and Essential Functions
Responsible for providing credit management and direction to Credit and Business line staff in the assigned Region. Assist assigned Region with loan quality goals by ensuring that loan policies and procedures are properly adhered to as well as supporting the Region Business line’s growth goals through responsive and timely credit decisions (both on approvals and overviews). Position will also help coordinate training needs for credit teams and lending staff in the Region / Department and will work with line staff to prepare for all regulatory and internal examinations, as requested.
• Provide leadership to Credit staff to structure credit requests properly, approve loans within the position’s authority, complete overviews when required, ensure proper loan coding and facilitate the processing for relationships requiring a higher level of approval.
• Responsible for reviewing all problem loans in the assigned region to ensure compliance with the Bank’s problem loan reporting requirements and that sufficient loan loss reserve allocations have been taken.
• Work with GWB staff to facilitate quality loan growth while maintaining a responsive underwriting and approval process that adheres to Credit’s Service Level Agreement. Focus must be on how to get to “yes” on qualified loan requests.
• Analyze and interpret financial statements including proforma and projections using trend analysis, ratio analysis, cash flow analysis, discounted cash flow analysis, and industry information, as well as macro/industry trends review. This could include working with the loan officer and/or the potential/present customer when necessary to obtain the needed data.
• Review credits for document deficiencies and perfection while analyzing the financial condition of the borrower. This includes making recommendations as to what documentation is required for potential loans.
• Investigate potential or existing corporate borrowers by performing UCC Searches, Credit Reports, First Research Reports, Troy Reports, Internet-based searches, and any other investigations which are necessary for the review of the credit.
• Direct and assist with Regional loan portfolio reviews, working closely with the respective loan officer and/or internal loan review to gain a comprehensive view of individual credit customers and the Regional portfolio, including on-site collateral inspections, as needed.
• Generate monthly and annual reports on the loan portfolio as requested.
• Respond to and resolve customer service requests according to Great Western policies in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner at all times.
• Assist Region Business line lenders with supervision and monitoring of monthly past due loans, daily overdrafts, business development, problem loan administration, and general portfolio loan administration tasks.
Qualifications/Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related area, or equivalent experience required.
• 7 + years credit analysis, agri / commercial banking, or accounting experience with at least 3 years of managerial experience required.
• Must have experience with managing credit staff and credit initiatives at multiple locations as well as ability to manage quality loan growth at multiple locations.
• Strong math skills and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong PC skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint applications).
• Strong desire to build relationships within the Great Western Bank organization and effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Possesses effective utilization of time management to accomplish sales goals on a consistent basis.
