The Merchant Policy Team creates and evolves merchant rules that impact the merchant experience, enables products and mitigates risk for the organization. Policy is a major driver of business and can have significant impacts to issuers, acquirers and merchants.
The team is a core enabler of many of the company’s Big Bet initiatives such as EMV (Chip Cards), Safekey, and Mobile Payments, while at the same time, the team is critically tasked with determining the key merchant pain points and creating merchant policy/rules to address those pain points.
Reporting into a tenured Policy Manager, the Policy Analyst will support the development and publishing of policies globally working with colleagues across American Express, including GMS Client Management, Risk, Network, Marketing, Global Servicing Network and the General Counsel's Office around the world.
The successful candidate will:
• Support the development of merchant policy specifically:
◦ (a) creating business cases and driving analytics by collaborating with the GMS Analytics Team to define data needs, validate output accuracy and summarize the output it a clear, well-organized way.
◦ (b) Collaborating with Customer Service and Fraud Disputes teams to review dispute cases.
• Clearly communicate data outcomes providing options where appropriate.
• Coordinate the policy governance process and policy training, as desired.
• Facilitate exchange of policy edits between policy owners and external vendors
• Manage the budget and invoice tracking assigned to external vendors and facilitate payments
Qualifications
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, very organized and strong attention to detail
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills including, but not limited to, pivot tables, sumif, index-match functions. Macros and Power BI, a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to focus on the details while keeping the objective of the analysis top-of-mind so that extraneous analyses are avoided.
• Highly self-motivated, results-oriented individual with strong relationship and communication skills to work cross-organizationally to drive policy change.
• Basic knowledge of payments and/or policy, strongly desired.
• Self-management in a virtual environment, a plus.
• Minimum of two years of experience in the banking, finance and/or related fields Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required
