Job Description Summary
As a Communication Strategist, you’ll direct the development of strategic communication and education campaigns for Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, and Nonqualified retirement plans for Transamerica clients.
You’ll work directly with external clients as well as internal business partners to develop a custom communication strategy to help retirement plans achieve their goals and drive participant engagement. You’ll be responsible for defining the needs of target audiences - whether it be enrolling in their employers’ retirement plan, saving more to better their retirement outcome, or educating participants on how small decisions can lead to big impacts. Once a strategy has been presented to the client, you’ll follow through on strategy implementation by working with marketing services and providing campaign oversight.
In this position, you’ll also be responsible for measuring campaign efficiency and effectiveness. It’s important to have strong analytical skills to provide strategic direction and translate results into meaningful action.
Responsibilities
• Proactively consult with Client Executives, Retirement Planning Consultants, Transition Managers, and other business areas on communication planning, messaging, content creation and editing in support of client’s needs.
• Display confidence when interacting with internal and external clients – be seen as the communication expert.
• Maintain a high level of responsiveness with internal and external customers, particularly when handling escalated and complex situations.
• Develop plan-level communication strategies and/or project communication strategies to support a broad number of client goals with thorough understanding of retirement plan offerings and employee demographics.
• Collaborate with sales and marketing partners to create and deliver impactful presentations for sales finals and site visits.
• Participate in other initiatives to improve communication strategy at client or plan level by gathering and analyzing information regarding the client’s retirement plan or participant behavior.
• Assist with campaign management and business intelligence tools and/or processes; understand details of data and marketing capabilities to ensure clients receive accurately segmented, formatted and ready-to-market data.
• Create campaigns including programs, promotions, announcements, and updates that leverage modern and innovative techniques.
• Assist with analysis of data to measure campaign efficiency, data accuracy, data integrity, operations performance, customer satisfaction, and cost effectiveness.
• Responsible for understanding trends within the benefit market place and Transamerica promotional/educational offerings and how they can impact clients and their employees.
• Be a source of new ideas and inspiration; proactively leverage insights and funnel them into actionable recommendations for clients.
• Work closely with internal marketing partners to ensure all components of client strategies are developed, delivered, and measured.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or equivalent experience.
• Eight years of insurance/financial services industry communications experience.
• Confident public speaker with ability to use a storytelling format and ability to present in group or one-on-one settings.
• Demonstrated success developing communication strategies.
• Excellent relationship management skills – strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated diplomacy in handling complex situations and/or audiences,
• Client relationship management, consulting, communication planning and implementation experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of all media channels, including digital and social.
• Well rounded ability to be creative and analytical – interpret data and recommend personalized strategies.
• Advanced knowledge of retirement products and services – DC, DB, NQ, healthcare benefits a plus but not required.
