Vanguard’s Global Investment Audit Services team has an exciting new opportunity for an Engagement Manager specializing in investments. You will part of a newly created global investments center of excellence within Internal Audit. You will perform risk-based and advisory engagements across a breadth of portfolio management, trading, and risk management areas, to evaluate management’s internal control environment. You will work in a team environment and have significant exposure, working directly with the front-office.
Highly preferred are individuals who understand or have had exposure to portfolio management and trading processes; this includes trade execution and trade support. An ideal candidate will have strong conceptual thinking, intellectual curiosity, and analytical skills. Candidates should be comfortable working both independently and within a team, and able to draft and deliver clear communications for various levels of management.
Global Investment and Financial Audit Services provides audit and advisory services supporting investment management, external advisors, investment accounting and administration, corporate finance and accounting and enterprise risk management processes. How you’ll spend your days
This highly independent role operates as a true partner to our business areas: working side by side with aligned departments in an agile setting, you’ll offer deep analysis of their processes, determine levels of associated risk, and evaluate controls to ensure adequacy. During the planning, testing, reporting, and follow-up steps of the audit process, you are encouraged to do proactive consultation, and identify opportunities for improvement that allow business groups to achieve operational and strategic goals.
Assignments will be dedicated to a specific area of focus, and include exposure to the broader business. As a respected voice in the room, you’ll influence senior leaders to take action to strengthen the control environment and make process improvements. By cultivating positive and effective working relationships with these aligned business areas, and risk partners, you’ll further drive Internal Audit’s position as a trusted advisor.
To promote an open dialogue, you’ll assist the Audit Director in crafting key messages and communications for senior management and other governance bodies, including: objectives of an engagement, status and results of assigned work, and audit and advisory findings, ratings, and recommendations. You’ll also leverage data analytics to support engagements, both to enhance scoping and strengthen recommendations. As an informal leader, you’ll develop relationships with colleagues to leverage their skill sets and experience, as well as foster colleague’s success by offering meaningful feedback and performance reviews of greener peers.

The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
• Undergraduate degree in a business related field of concentration or equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional certification or advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CPA, CIA, CFA) is a plus.
• Five to seven years general business experience (with two to four years of project management related experience). Experience with audit, risk or controls (i.e. operational audits, financial statement audits, internal audits, advisory/consulting, controls/compliance/legal) preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of and demonstrated interest in the financial services industry. Ability to present findings and industry insights to senior leaders across the company.
• Strong conceptual thinking aptitude.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, dynamic, and fast-paced environment with strong inherent project execution skills, including: prioritizing tasks, balancing workload between multiple projects, anticipating next steps, adapting to changing situations and project scope.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including: written and verbal communications, willingness to assist in areas outside of direct assignments when necessary, and commitment to self-improvement and completion of team objectives.
• Experience in situations requiring diplomacy. Strong negotiation skills.
• Strong relationship skills and client focused mindset.
