Hancock Forest Management, Inc. (“HFM”)and Hancock Farmland Services, Inc. (“HFS”)are wholly owned subsidiaries of Hancock Natural Resource Group (“HNRG”). HFMand HFS are property management companies that serve global institutional investors through related-party investment management groups (Hancock Timber Resource Group and Hancock Agricultural Investment Group) and third-party private investors. HFM oversees the timber development and harvesting operations for approximately 3.8million acres of timberland across the USA and Canada. HFS oversees the agricultural assets and operations for approximately 0.3 million acres of farmland throughout the USA. Collectively, HFM and HFS represent the North American property management platform of HNRG.
Position Summary:
The Accountant II role on the Corporate Accounting team participates in the non-property accounting operations, including month-end closing processes and certain shared service functions for HFM and HFS. The ideal candidate will be an experienced accountant with a working knowledge of accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting systems. This candidate will work as a team member with peers, and reports directly to the Controller. This role does not have any direct reports.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare the month-end closing and reporting processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Maintain aspects of general ledger accounts and related business transactions (including employee expense reporting).
• Perform intercompany billings for shared service allocations.
• Perform other shared service duties as assigned, such as master data maintenance (e.g. chart of accounts, vendors, and customers).
• Develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
• Participate in special projects as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business/Finance/Accounting.
• Minimum of 2 years of direct, relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting systems
• Ability to learn and use multiple systems to analyze problems and derive answers to financial questions with an analytical mindset.
• Ability to recognize urgent/important tasks, and prioritize them accordingly.
• Self-motivated; strong commitment to get the job/task down well and on-time in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Must be able to work independently and as a strong team player.
• Highly supportive of others; promotes a positive office and team environment.
• Highly organized with a keen attention to detail and accuracy; advocates for accuracy and improved efficiency in our accounting processes.
• Demonstrates the highest integrity.
• Coachable personality that is willing to learn and grow.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to ask questions until a mutual understanding is reached.
• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Preferred:
• Previous experience as an Accountant on a corporate accounting team.
• Previous experience in public accounting.
• CPA certification.
• Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, Prophix, Esker, SharePoint, and/or workflow automation tools that pertain to areas of accounting and contracts.
