Corporate Actuarial Reserving is seeking a highly motivated individual contributor who will be responsible for providing analysis and support on key lead projects for the Actuarial function. This position will be directly responsible for the creation and management of key recording and reporting processes of actuarial reserve estimates. This position handles projects that span the Company and provides the unique opportunity to serve as subject matter expert and work with senior leaders, including those in actuarial and finance roles, Corporate Departments, and external parties such as auditors, rating agencies, regulators, and investors.
Responsibilities:
• Develops and maintains tools for internal reporting and reconciliation of total Liberty Mutual reserves.
• Utilizes advanced technical accounting and finance knowledge in conjunction with advanced communication skills to effectively communicate concepts and findings to audiences with varied backgrounds.
• Identifies and evaluates opportunities to improve processes, controls, and data gathering methods. Work with stakeholders using expertise to identify and implement improvements.
• Brings in-depth and/or breadth of expertise to business process changes. Integrates process improvement and business operations expertise to solve problems considered more complex in nature.
• Analyzes information to identify trends, patterns, gaps and insights using descriptive analytics. Typically uses data visualization tools to further business insights.
• Builds the business case for making a change to current practices, programs or procedures. Conducts current state assessment, opportunity assessment, cost/benefit analysis, feasibility assessment, etc.
• Owns report development for reports/dashboards of high complexity. Develops, modifies and distributes standard and ad hoc management reports/dashboards to better understand the overall business and/or unit. Develops presentations and shares findings as well as recommendations.
• Identify and lead projects of moderate to high scope and complexity for cross-SBU function projects. Communicate project opportunities and constraints to management and monitor and report project status.
• Foster collaboration across businesses and functions, lead in the development and distribution of standards, provide direction and coordination for implementation of changes to processes, controls, and data gathering, and manage execution of practices utilized across the business.
• Develop and maintain documentation of standards and practices.
• Interface with external auditors and other parties on held reserve balance issues; design reporting packages for external auditing firms.
• Responsible for evaluating, developing, and maintaining Corporate Actuarial controls both for financial data and for related data that is currently outside the traditional financial reporting processes. Coordinate reviews of information and processes for both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree (Finance or Accounting preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8+ years of financial and analytical related experience.
• Strong knowledge/skills in finance, problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Broad knowledge of Liberty Mutual’s financial processes across all SBUs and Corporate, especially in regards to losses.
• Ability to understand and respond to new standards that may be promulgated in the future, such as new International Accounting Standards.
• Experience initiating and leading projects.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization. Demonstrated ability to exert influence on matters of importance.
• Strong organizational skills and proficiency at multi-tasking. Demonstrated ability to adapt well to the changing needs of the organization.
