Job Description
Job Summary:
Works in consultation with the Chief Investment Strategist (CIS) to implement the overall investment philosophy and strategy for FAM's clients. Responsible for leading the team of Portfolio Managers in providing exceptional investment performance and client service to existing clients and participating in new business development. Operates as the lead Portfolio Manager on the team serving family office clients along with the Relationship Manager and Wealth Strategist. Participates as a member of FAM's Strategic Investment Committee. Develops a communication strategy for the team and communicates FAM's investment philosophy and strategy to clients, prospects, and centers of influence (COI).
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Works with Relationship Managers (RM) to develop and implement the appropriate investment allocation based on the client's investment objectives. Understands and takes into account operating businesses and legacy assets to determine appropriate risk tolerance. Manages the day to day investment needs for specific client families including rebalancing, raising liquidity, making adjustments, and monitoring the portfolio. Prepares reports and communicates updated investment allocations and investment performance attribution during investment review meetings and as needed.
• Works closely with the Managing Director and RMs on new business opportunities. Participates in prospect meetings, communicates FAM's investment philosophy, and creates customized investment proposals based on the prospects goals and objectives. Represents FAM by speaking to groups of COIs, prospects, and bankers on investment related topics.
• Based on research and determination of capital market assumptions, works with Chief Investment Strategist to formulate both strategic and tactical asset allocation and presents to Investment Committee for approval. Able to share and debate ideas in a collaborative environment. Compiles outside research and develops new ideas. Researches new ideas at direction of CIS. Works with CIS to identify new equity, hedge fund, and private equity managers. May be assigned managers to follow and be point person on.
• Along with assistance from other members of the investment team, ensures that regulatory, compliance, and fiduciary requirements are met. Maintains complete and updated documentation and files for all the firm's managers, strategies/model, and funds. Prepares and present materials for Investment Committee meetings. Serves as the representative from Investments on the FAM Admin and Compliance Committee.
• Provides leadership, coaching, development, and growth opportunities to FAM portfolio managers. Responsible for planning, assigning or directing work of the PM team. Responsible for appraising performance, providing ongoing feedback, addressing issues, and resolving personnel problems. Inspire continuous improvement on level and quality of service for PM team as they work with RMs and serves clients.
• Develops and implements consistent processes across the team, especially as it relates to performance reporting, client communication, and RM/PM workflows and communication. Coaches the PMs on how to best communicate FAM's investment philosophy to clients, prospects, RMs, and other stakeholders, and how to work in a collaborative manner with other members of the FAM team to identify and accomplish the client's goals and objectives. Develops a consistent communication strategy that can be utilized by PMs, RMs, and Wealth Strategists.
• Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
