A day in your life as an Accounting Assistant:
Under the general direction of the Recon Settlement and Control Unit Manager or designee, this position is responsible for the review and completion of assigned day to day activities of General Ledger (G/L), Reconciliations, Settlements, Cash Balancing and/or Branch Research. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.
We’ll give you these important responsibilities…
• Performs daily reviews of the G/L activity utilizing TRecs, reports, and Image Center for assigned cost centers, and ensures that all “daily clear accounts” reflect a zero balance. Performs reconciliation and balancing of assigned settlements and posts necessary G/L entries. Reconciles Branch Cash utilizing TRecs, reports and Image Centre and books outages accordingly by the end of the balancing day.
• Validates entries posted based on the description and G/L account indicated. Researches and makes corrections as needed to ensure G/L entries are correct. Provides research for cash outages in excess of $300.00 and communicates disposition back to the branch in a timely manner. Maintains TRecs activity, monitors assigned branch/cost center suspense accounts and ensures proper documentation is provided for aged items in excess of 60 days.
• Prepares monthly/quarterly reports for specialized G/L accounts, ensures the reports balance to the appropriate G/L accounts and ensures that reports conform to established procedures.
• Identifies problems for unallocated differences, daily clear accounts, rejected items, POD differences and unusual circumstances. Follows escalation guidelines and department procedures to resolve these problems.
Qualifications

Education:
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• In addition, 2 years of post-high school education in Accounting from an accredited institution or equivalent work/subject matter experience.
Experience:
• Minimum 1 - 2 years of general accounting and reconciliation experience.
• General ledger experience is preferred.
Technical Skills:
• Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or similar software.
• Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.
• Knowledge and operational use of 10 key by touch and must have strong keyboarding skills with minimal errors.

• Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
• Ability to build strong working relationships and partnerships across organization with a collaborative and consultative approach.
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and assignments with varying deadlines.
• Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
• Must be able to push/lift 30 lbs., duties may require the use of a step stool and bending/stretching for filing and retrieving folders.
