Role
The Senior Vice President of Innovation Management will lead the Global Innovation Management and Mastercard Labs’ Marketing teams that are responsible for driving innovation at Mastercard through the development, marketing and evolution of Mastercard’s innovation processes, tools and programs. Our proven methodologies and structured innovation programs enable us to generate new ideas from a variety of sources, and fast-track the best ideas from concept through prototype, pilot and into commercialization faster than ever before. These efforts result in the material delivery of new and impactful programs that help to de-risk the introduction of new products and services into the organization, drive the culture and skills of Mastercard and deliver innovative messaging through experiential storytelling. Reporting to the Head of Mastercard Labs, the ideal person for this position will be seasoned in creative thinking with a ‘roll-up-your-sleeves,’ intrepreneurial spirit, and will capably lead the teams responsible for continuing to deliver on this momentum.
• Leads the green field internal innovation programs with a focus of continuously improving and scaling existing innovation programs, incorporating best practices and lessons learned, which requires comprehensive and original concepts and approaches.
• Serve as the go-to lead for innovation programs, providing formal and informal leadership and partnership to Mastercard, by fostering the thriving innovation community and continuing to elevate Mastercard’s reputation for innovation.
• Responsible for leading the central Marketing team for all of Labs to design the strategy and execution of the Mastercard Labs’ narrative, including internal and external marketing/communications in close coordination with Mastercard Marketing and Communications teams and program leads to create an impactful, unified voice for Mastercard Labs.
• Responsible for the end-to-end ownership of highly-visible innovation showcases globally, including coordinating with product owners to cultivate engaging content; creating a consistent design across all showcase-related media globally in partnership with the corporate communications team; management of associated vendors; enhancing customer interactions leverage cutting-edge technology platforms; ensuring efficient showcase operations; developing metrics to monitor effectiveness of showcases in driving business objectives; and enabling a seamless client engagement model for customers, Board of Advisors, global executives, etc.
• Responsible for strategically-relevant impact of Labs initiatives delivered to the regions by building connectivity with senior-level regional executives and by managing the Regional Labs Lead roles that dual-report into this role and the Digital Region Heads; Regional Labs Leads ownership includes ensuring the Mastercard Labs capabilities are strategically leveraged to drive impact to the regions via Labs R&D, Start Path engagement with the fintech ecosystem, co-creation of initiatives with clients and culture-building employee engagement via our innovation programs.
• Conduct ongoing best practices and competitive reviews to direct, develop and execute the creative articulation and delivery of Mastercard Labs value proposition to various stakeholders leveraging multiple channels, including the maintenance of the Mastercard Labs intranet.
• Responsible for continuing to deliver on Mastercard Labs’ Thought Leadership capabilities via identifying and prioritizing Mastercard Labs’ POV on key topic areas relating to the future of our businesses and our clients’ businesses; evangelize the distribution of the content related to the POVs across internal and external channels.
• Responsible for creatively elevating internal and external awareness, and participation in, Mastercard Labs’ initiatives, including our innovation programs, innovation showcases and portfolio project delivery work globally.
• Partner with internal business units to plan and execute the strategy for Investor Community Meetings, conferences and media experiences featuring showcase exhibits.
• Provide thought leadership on competitive trends and the evolution of tools and strategies to engage and delight customers with highly-experiential exhibits spanning variety of customer segments.
• Identifies opportunities to test both proven and new methods, anticipates barriers to adoption and develops ways to cultivate desired results via an appetite to take thoughtful risks on new use cases leveraging the latest technologies and by co-creating and partnering with key stakeholders.
All About You
• Extensive innovation programs experience, marketing strategy experience, project management, problem solving and planning skills with a demonstrated record of success managing multiple projects in a global setting with external and internal clients simultaneously, is required
• Demonstrated a strong, professional presence and exhibits excellent written/verbal communications skills with senior executives and customers
• Demonstrated strong self-awareness, open to different approaches and ideas and open to challenging status quo to drive new business initiatives
• Demonstrated passion and experience in the intrepreneurial space and exhibits experience quickly understanding, utilizing and evangelizing new technologies
• Demonstrated strong leadership and collaborative skills with particular success building and leading integrated, multi-functional teams in an agile, fast-paced environment
• Preferred experience in an entrepreneurial setting, either in a start-up or corporate environment
• Demonstrated ability to take accountability and drive to desired results with passion, ambition and aptitude
• Possesses a passion for cutting-edge digital payments products, brand perception, innovation and technology
• MBA or other advanced degree in strategy, marketing, communications, innovation, entrepreneurship or other related field a plus
