Job Description
Currently, we are seeking a talented IT Application Development Supervisor to join the Life Insurance Division in Aliso Viejo. The Life Insurance Division works with financial and insurance professionals to give families and businesses the life insurance coverage needed to help meet important financial protection, wealth accumulation, and wealth preservation goals.
POSITION SUMMARY
The position is for hands on application development supervisor who can take overall accountability for a set of applications within the workflow solution. This is accomplished by overseeing two major activities: (1) all enhancements and ongoing maintenance of the applications, including code maintenance activities, application administration and long-term application planning; and (2) As dictated by business needs, the position will also direct and/or lead new application development projects or releases. The application development supervisor will manage a team of analysts and developers on the Workflow team. In this capacity, the supervisor will be responsible for resource management, talent development, and defining and enforcing best practices. The supervisor will provide guidance to the analysts and developers as needed to resolve issues and define and design effective solutions. This position is the one of the primary point of contacts for business management outside of the IT organization and must understand and service their needs, requests and priorities.
Primary responsibilities include:
•Coordinating the development, maintenance and support of workflow applications.
•Leading systems analysts, developers, and technology project managers.
•Recommending and approving enhancements/changes to applications, formulating and defining scope, anticipating business challenges and regulatory issues, and recommending process and service improvements.
•Managing/coordinating with vendors for day to day production support issues & to plan and execute projects.
•Managing, scheduling and implementing technology-related initiatives and strategies both internally & with vendors, ensuring on time, on budget and quality delivery of system changes.
•Ensuring application service levels are met on a daily basis.
•Implement proactive system monitoring and escalate issues for management attention appropriately.
•Work with management to prioritize & implement system enhancements, bug fixes & project releases.
•Overseeing compliance to appropriate policies, standards, and audit requirements.
•Operating an effective application development area including processes such as work request management, resource management, project planning, release and configuration management, requirements analysis, systems design, programming, implementation, and documentation.
•Providing development opportunities and career path guidance to staff.
FACTORS FOR SUCCESS
•10+ years progressive technology experience in application development and testing, including 2+ years of leadership and managerial experience.
•Strong development experience in Java/J2EE/.NET, and Webservice technologies.
•Experience in cross-platform application integration (JAVA and .NET with Mainframe Applications).
•Experience with any business rules engines is preferred.
•Experience with Agile methodologies is a plus.
•5+ years experience in Life Insurance and/or financial services with a thorough understanding of business functions & processes would be a plus.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Proven leadership, organizational, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills.
•Strong team building, partnership and collaboration, and resource management skills.
•Demonstrated ability to prioritize/communicate conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment.
•A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
