Job Description Summary:
Full Time Task Force Controller – Western Region
The ideal candidate would understand how to direct the daily, weekly and monthly accounting, reporting, forecasting, and labor management process in compliance with management and ownership requirements.
This opportunity is for a permanent Task Force Controller position based in the western United States.
Travel requirements may include staying on property up to 3 weeks at a time in limited cases, while the normal situation will be 1 or 2 week durations. 90+% travel will be the norm, the remaining time may be home-based.
Job Description:
Scope of this Position
• Task Force position is responsible and accountable for financial reporting to ownership, property leadership, and the management company
• On short notice, quickly become knowledgeable with property specific systems and processes to add immediate value to the operation
• Enforce and/or implement and oversee Benchmark financial controls, processes, and philosophy throughout property
• Report financial results to owners and management in accordance with approved hotel accounting policies
• Develop annual budgets and business plans each year in conjunction with properties assigned
• Schedule and conduct annual internal audits
• Direct on-property accounting staff in execution of responsibilities and review and approve their work
• Develop accurate and timely forecasts including labor management along with other departments
• Direct control of costs and expenses in all areas to achieve acceptable flow through
• Oversee legal and tax compliance with local, state and federal laws
• Understand and oversee risk management programs, including insurance
• Provide financial and system training to property leadership
• Manage capital and other expenditures according to budget
• Work closely with Front Office, Reservations, Sales, Spa and F&B Department to assist them in identifying optimum ways to drive revenues while balancing market segments
Job Requirements
• Must be a US citizen or possess a valid work permit
• Ability to travel extensively
• Five years hospitality accounting experience with properties similar to Benchmark’s portfolio
• BA/MBA/CPA/CHAE certifications preferred
• Work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, and weekends
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Technical Requirements:
• Solid experience in all areas of Accounting from A/P, A/R, General Ledger, Credit, Collections, Audit, Inventory control, Payroll, Budgeting, Forecasting, Costing, P&L preparation and analysis
• Oversee consolidation of budgets and projections
• Assist Departments in budget preparation
• Provide management with operational reports
• Prepare and review daily reports
• Review leases, contracts, agreements, subcontracts, and licenses from accounting perspective
Leadership Requirements:
• Ability to manage change effectively
• Ability to conceptualize the mission
• Ability to implement business plans, policies, controls
• Work closely with property executive committee to meet near-term goals
Managerial Requirements:
• Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to sell concepts and ideas to management, peers, and employees
• Experience making presentations in front of groups
• Maintain a good working relationship with guests, groups, and personnel from other departments
• Demonstrate team building experience
• Track record promoting an atmosphere of teamwork
• Demonstrate ability to lead by example
