Profile Summary
The Tax Planning Manager/Director will be a leader in Voya’s Corporate Tax Department, a dynamic and fast-paced group focused on driving tax efficiency and providing insightful advice to senior leadership across the company. The Tax Planning Manager/Director will work closely with senior management to identify, develop and implement tax planning opportunities and to advise senior management on the tax implications of various initiatives. Responsibilities include: proactive involvement in tax structuring and planning, and analyzing the tax consequences of Voya’s investment initiatives. This position reports to the VP Tax, Planning, Investments, and Controversy. The position title will be determined based on the candidate’s ability and experience.
Profile Responsibilities
• Identify, develop, and implement tax planning initiatives that maximize the efficiency of Voya’s tax position.
• Advise senior management on the tax implications of business and corporate initiatives.
• Evaluate M&A and other transactions to determine optimal tax structure and provide value-added advice to Voya’s senior tax leadership and deal team.
• Assist in M&A due diligence.
• Act as a tax resource and advisor to investment professionals in analyzing and creating new financial products, vehicles and transactions, including hedge funds.
• Represent Corporate Tax in explaining the tax consequences of complex transactions to senior management, IRS and external auditors.
• Identify and communicate risk and opportunities related to changes and potential changes in tax law/policy.
• Automate complex tax planning models to enable quick and accurate evaluations of tax planning initiatives on tax rate and cash flows.
• Serve as a liaison to Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, lines of business and other internal customers to ensure appropriate execution of tax strategy.
• Work with tax accounting team to identify potential impact of planning initiatives on FIN 48.
• Make meaningful contributions to development and training of Corporate Tax Department staff.
• Lead and participate in special projects and/or initiatives, as needed.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience
• JD or CPA and master’s degree in Taxation required.
• 10 - 15 years of tax experience in a large corporate environment (preferably with insurance/financial company) and/or Big 4 accounting firm, with significant emphasis on tax planning and/or M&A.
• Strong understanding of general tax concepts such as: consolidated return rules, net operating losses and accounting periods & methods.
• Proven ability to understand, analyze and research complex tax issues, as well as the ability to synthesize results clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
• Ability to explain complex concepts in a concise way to senior leadership.
• Proven ability to collaboratively operate in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead projects effectively.
• Proficiency in software applications, primarily Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
