JOB FUNCTION/SUMMARY:
The incumbent assists management in identifying risks in the financial reporting process and ensuring that sufficient mitigating controls are in place and working. The incumbent will oversee the performance of all aspects of the SOX compliance program and is responsible for the reconciliation monitoring function. The incumbent maintains a consultative relationship with all levels of management, is a member of the Internal Control Council, and reports on control matters directly to executive management and the Audit Committee. The incumbent either performs the duties listed below personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage the ongoing annual and quarterly process, documentation and assessments for SOX 302, 404 and 906 compliance to include scoping, process walkthroughs and the assessment of control design and effectiveness
• Monitor and oversee the remediation of deficiencies identified during testing and evaluate any remaining deficiencies
• Interface with external auditors and provide direct assistance for SOX related activities as required
• Conduct the reconciliation control program to ensure compliance with policy and effective reporting to management
• Report internal control and reconciliation issues to various levels of management and the Audit Committee
• Serve on and act as coordinator for the Internal Control Council
• Assist operating unit management to assess and identify controls needed for new processes and opportunities for operating efficiencies
• Assist in training operating units on financial controls and reconciliations
• The incumbent manages managers and employees and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the assigned unit and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
• CPA certification (active or inactive) is required.
• Requires at least 10 years combined experience in public accounting with financial statement audits of mid to large financial services entities and / or accounting/control function within mid to large financial services entities.
• Advanced level of understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and business strategies within the financial services industry.
• Advanced knowledge of financial reporting processes and internal control environment within the financial services industry.
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP, SEC requirements, and banking regulations.
