Description
The Vice President of Enterprise Architecture (EA) leads the EA team to define and deliver enterprise-wide architecture and solutions connecting business needs with supporting technology, including accountability for creating and defining an IT Architecture Governance Framework and organizing/leading an IT Architectural Review Board. As a primary change enabler, the VP of EA provides leadership direction and accountability for delivery of strategic architectural and business goals, including governance and oversight of delivery against the defined roadmap, architectural standards and patterns. This will be delivered through the process of defining the strategy, plans and governance needed to implement and manage enterprise architecture domain designs and technology standards. The EA team works across all architectural disciplines, including business (processes/activities/functions/information), application, data, integration, infrastructure, security and technology, and creates and maintains related best practices, patterns and reference architectures. Roadmaps delivered by the VP of EA in direct collaboration with business and IT stakeholders enable planning and realization of the business and architectural goals, and drive business and technology transformation. The VP of EA leads all key EA functions, and measures and communicates the value of EA, while promoting continuous improvement of the EA function for the whole enterprise.
Area of Responsibility:
• Define the principles that guide technology decisions for the enterprise, and Chair governance activities in support of the EA function and management of the technology portfolio.
• Directs the activities of the Enterprise Architecture Team, supporting the Enterprise Architecture function, including analyses of current state across business systems and the technology that support them, creation of future state architectures, and development of road maps to achieve future state objectives. Works with all levels of management and across organizational boundaries.
• Create, own and maintain target state architectures and patterns, and coach delivery teams in application of these architectures and patterns.
• Lead development of business-driven IT roadmaps to map business and functional/capability needs to technology architecture, and provide long-range plans to realize future business and technology goals while maximizing technology investments.
• Uses technology knowledge to anticipate and understand the implications of the latest technologies to communicate and evangelize them to appropriate audiences and to integrate these technologies appropriately into products and programs throughout the organization.
• • Generate architecture policies, standards and procedures; maintain in-depth knowledge of the organization's technologies and architectures.
• Demonstrate related experience in developing and supporting the operation of large complex, multi-vendor, multi-protocol data network.
• Leverages advanced expertise in complex information systems to effectively communicate complicated, often technical, concepts clearly and articulately through non-technical means, to ensure that all stakeholders are suitably informed.
• Serving as an evangelist of architectural vision, strategy, and principles creating enterprise frameworks that allow other architects, developers and IT professionals to work in sync.
• Collaborate across Business and Technology functions to identify opportunities to leverage common solutions and extend the adoption of standards.
• Guide, evaluate and govern alignment of project solutions to architecture standards and patterns. Lead remediation efforts where gaps in alignment are identified. Ensure that non-functional requirements and architecture acceptance criteria are firmly understand, addressed, delivered and tested by the project.
• Identify new technologies that meet specified cost-benefit criteria and take appropriate action to introduce relevant technologies to the company. This may include proof of concept activities, cost-benefit documentation, training, configuration recommendations, contract and service level requirements, etc.
• Cultivate relationships with stakeholders and proactively communicate architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies to the stakeholders in IT and the business. Educate stakeholders on the value of enterprise architecture and provide consultation by anticipating future business and technology scenarios.
• Lead decision making around technology concerns across the enterprise, ensuring architectural principles are applied and demonstrating strong operational and financial acumen to guide technology decisions.
• Analyze business proposals and plans, and to identify the applicable architectural solution to address business problems at hand, bearing in mind the aspects of cost management and risk management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Experience building, leading and growing an Enterprise Architecture function. Experience coaching Enterprise Architects to strengthen the skills and outcome/value of the team.
• Experience leading large portfolios of inter-related projects, achieving target outcomes and business value within budget and timeline.
• Broad technology expertise, across all architectural disciplines. Experience across varying architectural models, including distributed and multi-tiered application environments.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating business and IT senior leaders and executives in definition of business-driven IT roadmaps.
• Demonstrated results in delivering defined roadmaps and associated business value, realizing both business and IT goals through such investments.
• Demonstrated ability to make informed, data-driven decisions, applying appropriate decision making rigor around projects, solutions and preferred technology. Ability to balance long-term outcomes with short-term needs.
• Experience in a variety of work environments and industries, with demonstrated ability to be effective and deliver on the defined responsibilities in these varying environments. Able to quickly adapt techniques to the target environment and stakeholders. Experience in Banking/Financial environments preferred.
• Full IT development life-cycle experience and knowledge, applying varying traditional and agile methodologies.
• Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to assess system and technology portfolios, recommend improvement opportunities, and align stakeholders around remediation of gaps.
• Grasp of current and emerging technologies and trends, with ability to rapidly assess and apply new and emerging technologies.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with both business and IT stakeholders and leaders, as well as IT engineering teams.
• •Knowledge of varying architecture methodologies, with demonstrated ability to select and apply the appropriate method to the problem at-hand.
• Strong strategic planning discipline, with experience building and communicating business cases for technology change.
• Ability to balance concurrent engagement in multiple complex initiatives.
• In-depth knowledge of Cloud Technologies, preferably experience with Azure
• A strong understanding of Information/Application security on premise and on-cloud
• Expert understanding of foundational architectural concepts and architecture frameworks and tools, defining and implementing enterprise information architecture and MDM solutions
• A strong understanding of the architectural principals of web based platforms including SaaS / PaaS, multi-tenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure and application servers.
• Knowledge of application design patterns, data modeling, service-oriented integration, business intelligence domains.
• Diverse Technology Stack experience coupled with .Net and Open Source Solution technology options (Cisco Routers & Firewalls, MPLS, Telephony, Security, Microsoft, Azure, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Intune, O365, Linux, SQL, LAMP…etc.…)
• Understanding of modern data architectures (e.g. event driven architecture, data democratization, stream log processing, message bus architecture).
