At CoBank, our Director, Corporate Accounting oversees the activities and responsibilities, and directs the staff, business processes, accounting systems, and general ledger activities of the corporate accounting department. Responsible for the monthly general ledger close process, including preparation of monthly financial statements and close package for distribution to senior management. Analyzes and reports budget to actual, period-to-period actual, and trend variances. Manages the corporate accounting, accounts payable, and lease accounting functional areas. Responsible for the analysis and implementation of new FASB accounting standards as they impact the general ledger. Manages the operation of the general ledger system, including the legal entity structure, chart of accounts, cost centers, eliminations, and related reporting. Establishes and monitors internal controls and processes to ensure the accuracy and completeness of transactions recorded in the general ledger. Leads and/or participates in system and process projects that impact corporate accounting. Prepares and/or reviews a variety of reports for various stakeholders. Provides support for internal and external accounting audits.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other relevant discipline.
• Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in accounting and/or financial reporting.
• Five (5) or more years supervisory/management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and/or experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm preferred.
• Experience in banking or financial services preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Strong understanding and adherence to internal controls (Sarbanes Oxley/ICFR).
• Advanced knowledge and experience with general ledger systems, such as PeopleSoft, and other accounting systems.
• Demonstrated leadership, decision making and team building skills, with the ability to manage, train, and motivate people.
• Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation.
• Strong business acumen, analytical and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams, work collaboratively and build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of associates, management, and internal customers across the bank.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively under deadline pressures, adjust quickly, and deliver commitments while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
• Conducts ad-hoc analyses as requested.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours.
• Occasional travel required.
