Within the Business Consulting (BC) service line our Financial Management Consulting Associates bring a tailored approach to help develop and operationalize strategies to transform finance and accounting functions, processes and technology. Steeped in Grant Thornton's legacy of finance function experience, our financial management consultants work with financial executives who want to add value, save time, save money and leverage shared services. Through tailored solutions, we help keep finance functions moving forward to evolve from traditional transaction and reporting to more efficient, analytical and data-driven processes to provide timelier insights to decision-makers to drive strategy and meet business objectives. Within the Financial Management practice you may be involved in projects related to:
• Financial Transformation -When financial executives face business events that drive an urgent need for finance transformation, our financial management consultants help clients respond with post-merger integration, core systems implementation, material business change and audit remediation or restatement consulting capabilities.
• Cost and Performance Management -To help finance functions operate efficiently and elevate strategic value to management, our financial management consultants provide cost and profitability analyses, finance process optimization, financial planning and analysis and financial benchmarking.
• Financial Operations -Our financial management consultants help improve finance operations through reporting and business intelligence, data analysis and reconciliation, policies and procedures and managed services and specialty accounting.
• Shared Services -Our financial management consultants help finance functions create efficiencies through updating and standardizing processes through shares services. We help organizations who are looking for guidance and consulting regarding shared service business models, managed service selection and centralizing finance operations.
Associates will gain exposure to various areas of the practice by participating as an active member on consulting projects by becoming an integral part of the delivery teams. As a Financial Management Consulting Associate your primary responsibility will be executing high quality projects and services from beginning to end under the supervision of experienced Financial Management leadership. You will be responsible for efficiently managing your workload to budget and learning how to apply technical skills across our various solutions. Additional responsibilities may include:
• Performing detailed analysis to identify opportunities for improvement, documenting conclusions, and providing recommendations
• Utilizing and continuously learning new technologies to collaborate with team members and enhance service delivery
• Utilizing various data collection techniques, selecting appropriate method and prioritization to fit project objectives and deliverables, and applying established analytical models to evaluate data, costs and benefits
• Assisting in project implementations that effectively and efficiently meet business objectives and ensure a return on investment
• Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
What are we looking for in an Associate?
Interested candidates should display an affinity for learning and problem-solving skills as well as have the adaptability to work cross-functionally within the Business Consulting service line and the Financial Management practice. Interested candidates should be self-starters and should demonstrate strength in or a desire to build skills related to Grant Thornton’s core values of: Collaboration, Leadership, Excellence, Agility, Respect and Responsibility.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Economics (preferred); Accounting degrees with coursework in financial, and cost accounting. Any of the preceding coupled with a degree or concentrated coursework in Management Information Systems is also beneficial. Degree requirements may vary by location
• Major and overall minimum GPA (preference) of 3.25/4.0
• Ability to travel 60%-100% as required
Skill Requirements
• Strong desire to do finance and accounting performance improvement management consulting work
• Interest to work cross functionally throughout different finance and accounting processes within an organization
• Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Effective project and time management skills for handling multiple priorities and simultaneous projects
• Enthusiasm to learn through a combination of structured, on-the-job and self-directed training
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment
Financial Management Consulting Associates are exposed to various projects across multiple solutions, allowing the Associates to discover the advisory services most suited to their skills and interests. Associates can expect to work closely with other staff, managers, and partners on all phases of the engagement lifecycle including planning, engagement management, and project wrap up. In addition, Associates are expected to actively contribute to Financial Management’s business growth by identifying business development opportunities, participating in marketing and brand initiatives and assisting with development of Grant Thornton thought leadership.
