Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Underwriting Specialist to join our team in our downtown Chicago location! The Technical Underwriting Specialist is responsible for drafting and distributing proposal document for highly complex requests which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions. Underwriter is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring new and existing products. Underwriter is considered a subject matter expert and is responsible for knowledge sharing with less experienced underwriting team members. Underwriter is also responsible to lead, mentor, motivate, coach, and develop less experienced underwriting team members. Underwriter will develop and deliver products that are innovative, market-leading, priced to drive profitable growth, and designed to attract sales.
Responsibilities Include:
• Draft and distribute proposal document for highly complex requests which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions.
• Draft or modify customer forms and respond to Department of Insurance objections.
• Prepare and submit to Regulatory Affairs rate and rule manuals, coordinate with Actuarial on filing Exhibits, and respond to Department of Insurance objections.
• Prepare product implementation system specification packages.
• Monitor changes or trends from underwriting assumptions and recommend broad corrective action using experience and creativity considering client's needs.
• Coordinate with actuarial and initiate program review if necessary.
• Review claim/contract exceptions and proposal documents within authority guidelines.
• As a subject matter expert, Underwriter is responsible for knowledge sharing with less experienced underwriting team members
• Underwriter is responsible to lead, mentor, motivate, coach and develop less experienced underwriting team members.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required (Insurance, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Risk Management or Mathematics preferred)
• 10 years of pricing, insurance, or warranty experience
• CPCU, ARM, AU or ARe designations preferred
• Advanced in MS Office Applications (Excel / PowerPoint / Word / Outlook / SharePoint)
• Broad Product Knowledge
• Ability to delegate highly complex tasks to other members of the Department
• Dedicated and driven professional with a track record of recent accomplishments
• A high degree of motivation and a self-starting attitude with a desire to thrive on new challenges and to take on additional responsibilities
• Ability to work with a limited level of supervision in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and challenging work environment
• Ability to work independently or on a team and prioritize own work to meet tight deadlines with high sense of urgency
• Competent in multiple-project oriented environment with ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently

• Ability to synthesize large, complex sets of information and integrate into meaningful reports, recommendations, and presentations
