Within TSG, the State & Local Tax Credits & Incentives team helps clients compete and succeed by staying up-to-date on the ever-changing, complex state and local tax rules. These business advisors specialize in solutions that relate to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), federal empowerment zone tax credit and other WOTC-equivalent state level hiring credits using our MaxCredits® platform. Responsibilities:
• Work with the partner and director group to develop a coordinated approach to market Moss Adams’ Credit and Incentive (C&I) opportunities.
• Develop and train others in the C&I area. This training should include the development of a coordinated approach for the assessment, quantification, marketing and delivery of C&I opportunities.
• Focus on expanding Moss Adams’ C&I opportunities in areas such as (but not limited to) California Competes Tax Credits, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, Empowerment Zones, State Enterprise Zone Incentives, Family & Medical Leave Credits, State Transferable Credits and negotiated incentives.
• Coordinate with other Moss Adams’ tax professionals and C&I leadership to drive opportunities through existing and prospective clients in Moss Adams’ Southern California offices and applicable regions.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in accounting, finance or related field preferred; Master’s degree in taxation or JD/LLM preferred
• CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential required
• Minimum of 7 years of related tax experience required; public accounting experience preferred
• Experience and proven track record working with local, state or federal credit and incentive programs required
• Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues required
• Previous experience handling multiple engagements simultaneously, while providing leadership and management over professional staff required
• Experience in state and local government revenue department preferred
• Experience with multi-state income, sales/use, gross receipts, property, employment or other miscellaneous state and local taxes preferred
• Prior success in leading key business development, project delivery and practice development activities preferred
• Demonstrate success to the firm around practice development, providing thought leadership and meeting target sales goals by having an established network and participating in various market facing activities, such as industry presentations, webcasts, professional networking events, etc.
• Experience in serving mid-market clients preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have experience in managing multiple client engagements
• Creative problem solving and research skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Willingness and ability to travel
