Responsibilities:
The Investment Operations Extended Internship within Principal Global Investors is the perfect opportunity to gain real world experience in the investment management industry. This extended internship will allow you to play a key role in supporting the investment management process by focusing on process improvement, projects, strong controls and data integrity.
Principal Global Investors is a premier global asset management firm with over $450 Billion in assets under management (6/30/18). We operate globally and therefore, you will be a part of our global operation’s department that is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment data to the investment boutiques and clients globally.
We utilize a team-based approach and have a wide range of opportunities in our Investment Operations Department such as Derivative Operations, Trade Support, Data Management, Investment Accounting, Strategy Performance and Reporting to name a few. You’ll be placed on one of these teams within the Investment Operations department where you will find opportunity to grow your career!
Qualifications:
• Candidates must be working toward a business degree in Finance, Accounting, MIS or engineering field with background in Economics, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science or Mathematics.
• Applicants must have a minimum of 1 semester of schooling remaining post-internship to be considered for this role.
• Excellent problem solving, analytical, organizational, and communication skills required.
• Candidates must possess strong computer skills including experience with MS Word and Excel.
• Must be able to work in fast-paced environment and be able to meet deadlines.
• Keen sense of intellectual curiosity
Preferred Qualifications:
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Coding skills such as SQL, R, Python or other coding languages are a plus
• Exposure with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI or others are a plus
• Investment related business acumen
• A 3.0 GPA or above
• Exposure to data analysis and/or investment concepts through intermediate level coursework, student organization involvement and/or internship/employment experiences
• Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and analysis
• Willingness to take on new tasks and look for ways to improve or automate processes
• Project oriented with ability to drive and compile meaningful results
The ideal candidate will use their problem-solving abilities to resolve investment data anomalies and implement risk reducing or process solutions. Assertiveness and attention to detail are also key to this area of our company. This position requires candidates to work 40 hours/week from Late December 2018 through Mid-August 2019 in Des Moines, Iowa.
