The Role
This Specialist, External Communications will perform and deliver on routine communications assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. S/he will specialize in communication assignments/projects for external audiences, including but not limited to developing social media content, developing content for executive external speaking engagements, and expanding media relations outreach.
Responsibilities
• Identifies and communicates to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Develops external communiqués including but not limited to talking points, press releases, fact sheets, executive speeches, and social media postings for a diverse range of audiences as needed.
• Supports the communications team by expanding media relations capabilities including maintaining editorial calendars and media lists, coordinating local media market activities and pitching media for assigned functions.
• Evaluates past media campaigns and researches the campaigns of competitors to help create and improve strategic communications activities.
• Cultivates and maintains relationships with reporters and influencers that focus on the financial services industry.
• Supports all relevant vendor relationships and monitor results. Utilizes benchmarks and metrics to track communication effectiveness of external communications, media relations and social media channel management.
• Researches potential speaking opportunities and identify appropriate Lincoln executives and assists in pulling together pitches to place speakers.
• Identifies external content that can be utilized by Lincoln social media team for reposts, likes, etc. to drive interaction with media and influencers through social channels.
Education
• 4 Year Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)
Experience
• 1 - 3+ Years’ experience in communications that directly aligns to the responsibilities of this role
• Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
• Demonstrated solid relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. management, peers and colleagues).
• Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.
• Demonstrates solid project management skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.
• Demonstrates the ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information.
• Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.
