Our ideal candidate will have a payroll tax background, and will have experience with multi-state payroll. Advanced Excel skills are required. Workday experience a plus.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Performs analytical audits and review employee change reports each pay cycle to ensure both, timeliness and accuracy are achieved when processing all employee payments.
• Maintain employee tax elections
• Analyze gross to net calculations for accuracy including tax withholding calculations
• Performs reconciliation procedures for all payroll tax filings – quarterly & annual
• Prepare and balance and release W-2 files
• Process W-2 corrections and reissues in accordance with IRS Regulations
• 3rd Party Vendor Coordination for tax filing and W2 related activities
• Serves on cross-functional human resources and organizational project teams. May act as a project lead for Payroll-related projects.
• Assists the Payroll Manager with related tasks and fills in for the manager as needed.
• Documents and develops training manuals and guides for payroll tax balancing, tax deposits and other related items.
• Researches laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures.
• Audits and approves off cycle payroll tax funding
• Manages new local and state accounts for wage and tax reporting purposes.
• Perform audits on all tax related items to ensure proper classification of taxable vs non-taxable wages.
• Assists with system testing of payroll tax data/configuration in Workday for tax updates and system upgrades/implementations.
• Act as a liaison between payroll and accounting to reconcile general ledger balances.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred; equivalent experience in payroll tax may be considered in lieu of degree
• 5+ years business experience
• 3-5+ years’ experience in a large automated payroll environment.
• Workday experience preferred
• CPP preferred
• Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information.
• Ability to work independently and provide coaching to team members.
• Demonstrated understanding of business objectives and relevant internal and external business issues impacting operations.
• Strong working knowledge of an automated payroll/HRIS system as well as an automated time and attendance system.
• Strong understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws
• Strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to interact professionally with all levels in a business environment.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated PC skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Know and apply project management principles.
• Strong attention to detail, time management and prioritization skills.
• Ability and willingness to continually develop the technical, operational, and systems skills needed to effectively analyze, develop and administer programs.
• Demonstrate shared values to all by providing effective human resources related programs, policies, and services.
• Ability to work overtime as needed to support timely payroll processing
