Position Description
Ally Invest is looking for a Risk leader who is excited about all aspects of risk management and has experience and knowledge of how to drive and manage change to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements aimed at the protection and support of our customers and shareholders. The Risk Director will report to the Sr. Director for Risk & Business Strategy and help design, implement, and oversee risk management and control practices that achieve maximum effectiveness with minimum disruption to business activities. We are looking for a leader with strong collaboration skills who is comfortable working across multiple departments and business lines. This will be a hands-on roll, requiring someone who is effective at working across multiple levels of leadership while also working at different levels of detail (from scheduling meetings and taking notes to challenging action plans and solutions to creating procedures and executive-level summaries.) As a leader on this team, the candidate will be responsible for building out several less mature risk practices, requiring solid planning and project management skills, ability to understand requirements and design practices that optimize efficiency with compliance, and ensure monitoring and testing are in place to identify risks and confirm compliance. Ally Invest includes a FINRA registered broker dealer, a SEC registered Advisor, Futures and Forex lines of business.
Job Responsibilities
Provide hands-on leadership to business line risk and compliance resources in the build, implementation and maintenance of Invest risk management practices
• Partner with Invest Data Team and Business leads to bring Ally Invest into Compliance with the Data Governance Policy by working to identify Ally Critical Elements (ACE) and supporting actions to establish data quality as part of risk control framework (starting with Business Line (BL) -Limits and KRIs)
• Build and maintain formalized / integrated risk reporting tied to strategic plan objectives and enterprise, business line and Ally Invest risk app framework; includes active participation in BL & Independent Risk Management (IRM) review and challenge activities
• Lead the business in evaluating the merits of new offerings / strategic initiatives / product enhancements and coordinate New Product / New Business Processes (including completion of the New Product Questionnaire through to full NPP risk assessments and reporting)
• Coordinate, define, and document scenario analysis in accordance with IRM themes and timelines (in support of annual DFAST & CCAR practices)
• Support development of Strategic Plan in alignment with Risk Appetite / identification and maturation of BL-Limits and KRIs (new or existing); also includes alignment with Consumer & Commercial Banking Products (C&CBP) Risk Appetite framework and metrics
• Actively support the annual and periodic Risk & Self-Control Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring regular review and refinement of hierarchy and process structure and appropriate reporting design and ownership for both IRM and 3120 (Annual Certification) purposes
• Serve as an escalation point for Issue Management practices, supporting the Risk team in helping the business achieve compliance with risk and control requirements while balancing business growth priorities
• Schedule, prepare agendas, and coordinate and refine materials for BL governance forums
Qualifications
• Education level: Bachelor's Degree or higher
• Total years and type of prior related experience: 10 Years Minimum
• Brokerage & wealth management experience preferred, FINRA Series 7, 99, and/or 24 licensed ideal
• Prior experience with Risk management practices, whether directly on risk side or business side
• Strong history with project management; Agile practices a plus - Ability to manage multiple small-medium projects that vary in complexity, size, and scope
• Ability to thoroughly understand and articulate the business issues surrounding each project
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills (personal, written and presentation) and work cross-functionally with business and IT staff - influential communication and active listening skills
• Ability to work with complex problems in an ambiguous environment
• Organized, detail oriented, thorough and persistent
• Strong Excel skills; must be able to manipulate details in spreadsheets (merge data sets, run compares, create filters / status indicators, etc.)
• Solid PowerPoint / presentation skills preferred
• Proactive mindset in problem identification and resolution
• Independent and self-motivated
• Flexible/dependable
• Propensity for mentoring and coaching others
