Description
The purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day claim operations and oversees the department staff. Monitors workflow to ensure department goals and objectives are achieved.
Supervisors will be proficient in their ability to communicate with impact, apply critical thinking, and possess leadership skills. Supervisors will act as a role model, resolve complex issues, and provide continuous coaching and feedback. Supervisors will monitor calls for quality, track rep performance / behaviors, identify areas for improvement, and follow the progressive counseling model as necessary. They will possess the ability to resolve escalated issues and exhibit advanced problem solving skills. Time management and organizational skills are crucial for the Supervisor as they manage day to day responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. In addition, the Supervisor participates in conducting new hire on-boarding and training, interviewing and hiring candidates.
This position demonstrates the ability to handle essential functions, and occasionally handles additional special projects as assigned by their manager.
Supervisory Responsibility
• Provides assistance to the team by answering daily questions, providing ongoing developmental training to team members, encouraging self-directed research, and encouraging a positive team atmosphere.
• Has full authority for the following people management responsibilities:
◦ Assigning, directing, and evaluating work
◦ Conducting performance evaluations, progressive counseling and career development discussions
◦ Ensuring appropriate orientation and on-going education/training
• Provides critical input to the following people management responsibilities:
◦ Hiring and input into firing employees
◦ Promotion, salary and bonus actions
• Handles and resolves escalated inquiries.
• Communicates updated information to staff in order to provide excellent customer service.
• Monitors staff functions, mentors, and provides feedback to employees.
• Recommends training programs to ensure the continuous education and development of personnel.
Project Responsibility
• Acts as the external/internal and process improvements subject matter expert on small and medium projects.
• Business lead on small projects within the team.
Operational Responsibility
• Monitors workflow and department processes to ensure production and quality goals are met.
• Analyzes reports to ensure objectives are met and determine ways to enhance departmental productivity.
• Monitors key performance indicators and provides recommendations to problems/issues.
• Communicates with peers across the Company
• Consults with management to improve effectiveness and efficiency of workflow and communicates trends and escalated issues as appropriate.
Client/Carrier Responsibility
• May collaborate with carriers on product enhancements, pricing, and software improvements.
• May manage new client implementation and existing client business, interfacing with appropriate areas/individuals to ensure objectives are met.
• Provides trend analysis and reporting outcomes to appropriate individuals/teams.
Qualifications
• High school diploma required and college degree preferred.
• 1-3 years supervisory experience in Life or Health Claims/customer service or the insurance industry preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks.
• Detail oriented to ensure accuracy.
• Excellent problem solving skills to resolve customer service and departmental issues.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide team with a clear sense of direction.
• Ability to motivate and coach staff in a team environment
