Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Senior Actuarial Programmer works with pricing team in Life Division Product Design Department to build pricing models and testing tools to support life product development. The main responsibility includes the following:
• Collaborate with pricing actuaries and product support team leaders to understand the need for product pricing and implementation testing tools.
• Build and test desired user-friendly pricing and testing tools. Work closely with pricing actuaries to make proper enhancement/adjustment during the pricing process to maximize the effectiveness of the tools.
• Examine existing pricing and testing tools against their purposes and objectives. Make recommendations when updating, upgrading or reengineering are needed.
• Research for creative solutions and new tool capabilities to enhance pricing quality and shorten pricing cycle to support Life Division’s growing product development need.
• Follow model governance process, provide proper documentation on tools.
• Lead user training to ensure that the tools are correctly and effectively used.
• Support other product design functions as needed, such as product pricing, modeling or case studies.
FACTORS FOR SUCCESS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or other related major
• 5+ years programming experience, preferably in building life insurance products with a variety of general and separate account product types
• Excellent design, coding, debuging and testing skills. Ability to find optimal solution to resolve issues.
• Strong working knowledge in MS Excel, MS Access, VBA and C#/C++
• Effective communication skills to lead project, present solutions and provide technical training to system/tool users
• Proven experience in handling multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
• Prior experience with actuarial modeling system (e.g. MG-ALFA) is a plus
• FSA or ASA designation in the Society of Actuaries desired but may be substituted with solid credential in programming field
• Good understanding on life insurance product structure and pricing process is a plus
Note: Actuarial credential/experience as well as life product knowledge are preferred but not required. Actual job grade offered will be based on experience.
