Director, Advanced Analytics, Product Delivery
Overview
Advanced Analytics (AA) is charged with generating data driven analytical solutions which include; predictive models, behavioral segmentation frameworks, campaign success measurement, profitability analyses, ad hoc reporting and data visualizations. We leverage over 10 petabytes of transaction data (2+ billion cards, 36+ million merchant locations, 210 countries/territories generating over 80 billion transactions per year).
The Rapid Prototyping & Media Team within the AA organization leverages transaction data, 3rd party data (eg. social media, weather data, etc.) and big data analytics/technologies to create actionable solutions/insights to traditional and non-traditional verticals including: merchants, digital media, Mobile, TV, search engine, manufacturing, commercial real estate etc.
We are looking for an experienced Director of Product Delivery who will be responsible for the day-to-day Agile delivery of next generation digital payments solutions based on data analytics, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This role will work as part of wider cross-functional teams that form organically around data product ideas – collectively contributing to the rapid iteration of Prototypes and MVPs (Minimal Viable Product), mainly in the B2B and B2B2C arenas. Each design iteration is exposed to end-users at each cycle of our rapid design-test-redesign process to ensure optimum user traction. The primary purpose of this role is to own the day-to-day delivery of these cycles. Prototype and MVP outputs include dashboards; widgets; chatbots; web applications; mobile applications; VUI voice interfaces; digital assistants; etc. – all in service of solving complex business challenges and with an ever increasing emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
We are seeking a Delivery “subject-matter-expert” who is passionate about digital product delivery generally and more specifically has a keen interest in the ‘Data Economy’ theme and how new data services can drive value to end consumers via our clients.
Role
The role of Delivery Lead encompasses the following roles and responsibilities:
Product Delivery:
• Lead the end to end delivery of a portfolio of Proof-of-Concepts, Prototypes and Minimum Viable Data Products (MVPs), using human-centric design principles and rapid prototyping methods (Lean UX, Design Thinking, APIs).
• Design a ‘fit for purpose’ rapid prototyping delivery model that supports the team in quickly filtering new ideas, promotes a positive culture of ‘fast failure’ and delivers results and value back to business users at the end of every test-redesign cycle.
• Matrix-manage, from a prototyping delivery perspective, a cross-functional core delivery team of developers, data scientists, designers, researchers, and external fintechs, to ensure the successful delivery (or early failure) of project “cycles” to the agreed time/cost/quality.
• Manage the staffing of the internal Product Development team, enabling the team to deliver high-quality work.
• Drive a positive delivery energy and culture of innovative thinking across the team to enable them to be comfortable exploring the “art-of-the-possible” in the era of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
• Work closely with key partners across the MC Data and Services group to ensure all aspect of delivery are considered and planned for, and that the ‘hand-shake’ between the Product Development team and the rest of the organization is seamless. This includes, but is not limited to interacting with the following key areas of the business: procurement, sales, subject matter experts, brand & marketing, legal, risk, and the operations and technology teams accountable for scaling solutions beyond the initial prototypes and MVPs.
• Ensure, where possible, that each prototype delivery is a node contributing to the wider vision of enabling MC to become the platform of choice for data services in the industry (both functionally and through technical scalability)
Stakeholder Management
• Act as the delegate for the Head of Product Development, as required, both internally and externally, supporting him in setting the strategy and direction for the team and generating a well-balanced portfolio of new product ideas.
• Ensure product business sponsorship is clear. Identify and manage these sponsors across all prototypes, including internal MC business lines, external end users, and wider ecosystem participants.
• Work with sponsors to plan design thinking workshops for the purpose of exploring and launching early stage product ideas
• Own the relationships with client regional and country teams to ensure that designs are reflective of the diversity of needs for a global user base and that customer-centric needs are considered early in product delivery lifecycle. Ensure as part of this relationship that the Product Development team obtains a clear picture of the maturity of MC’s client’s data strategies.
• Work closely with the MC communications team to define a communications strategy for the Product Development team that is based on subject-matter rich content, both internally and externally.
• Manage, on behalf of the Head of Product Development, the data required to articulate the team’s value both internally and externally, in terms of the value-outputs and how they drive value back into MC lines of business.
Pipeline and Governance:
• Take day-to-day ownership of the team’s digital product pipeline and backlog and apply a ‘product owner’ lens to ensure the balance of new ideas is aligned to the needs defined by end users. Also act as the ‘filter’ for new requests entering the D&A backlog, including new product/service ideas as well as any external ecosystem events/requests that augment our thinking.
• Ensure the team has the ‘head-space’ and time to constantly scan the horizon for ‘the next big thing’. Better yet, define exactly what that next big thing is in the Data and Analytics space.
• Leverage existing – and contribute net new – agile delivery methods that are flexible enough to support the delivery of any idea, ensuring no project is ‘constrained’ by process or governance.
• Be accountable for ensuring that at-all-times process is lean and enables collaborative working, clear prioritization, and a focus on the content first. Actively seek to reduce redundancy in existing ways of working to drive efficiency.
• Provide regular data to monitor financial and service performance of the D&A team against targets and KPIs.
External Ecosystem Engagement:
• Create a new ‘Data Village’ centre-of-excellence in the industry that is led by the MC Data & Analytics team but consists of a well-balanced pipeline of fintechs, data experts and clients, all wishing to explore together a common set of data themes, including predictive analytics dashboards; widgets; chatbots; web applications; mobile applications; VUI voice interfaces; digital assistants, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). The goal of the Village is to become ‘the platform’ that drives thought-leadership, research and collaborative co-creation of industry-wide payment data solutions to end users.
• Define a clear strategy on how the D&A team can best utilize the external innovation ecosystem to optimize their capacity, design-thinking and thought-leadership. Ensure any partnerships, relationships, ecosystem or speaking-events are aligned to the strategy of the team and have clear value-outputs that drive our delivery forward.
• Ensure that the D&A Team are positioning MC externally as being a leader in the Data Economy space but that this is well-balanced with the rapid delivery of prototypes to ‘show’ to the external ecosystem.
