Scope
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative, and strategic communications professional, with substantial experience working in financial services, who can manage a range of internal and external-facing tasks. Candidate must have well-established relationships in financial media, excellent communication skills, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
The Media Relations Director should be comfortable working with clients at all levels of the firm, from individual officers and practice heads to members of senior management. He or she should be proactive in bringing new ideas and initiatives to support the firm’s global brand as it grows in new geographies and businesses; particular focus should be given to 1) message and story development intended to garner features about the firm and 2) raising the firm’s profile among trade media across the firm’s eleven industry groups.
Responsibilities
• Develop ideas, themes, and story angles for firm features and profiles, matching pitches to appropriate media targets
• Maintain firm’s relationships among trade media across Corporate Finance industry verticals; increase firm’s profile in trade media (deal coverage, quoted articles, etc)
• Draft and issue press releases on firm news
• Field calls from journalists; pitch stories and interviews supporting the firm’s business and marketing goals
• Build upon and expand firm’s relationships among financial and trade media
• Publicize transactions, awards, and other firm achievements
• Generate media coverage of HL content marketing pieces
• Issue monthly media clip report
• Assist with media-related updates to hl.com and firm’s LinkedIn page
• Manage journalists at HL conferences
• Help prepare quarterly reports on firm’s PR activity
• Assist with quarterly earnings announcements
Requirements/Qualifications
• Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in financial services communications (agency or in-house)
• Strong relationships with financial media
• Experience working with senior executives
• Social media experience a plus
• Proficiency with MS Office, Bloomberg, PowerPoint
