Business Summary:

Homeward is planning for aggressive growth in its Consumer Direct Lending Channel. We are looking for experienced mortgage professionals in sales, operations and capital markets who have a passion for delivering the highest level of customer care while working in a growing, fast-paced lending business.
Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, the Underwriter is responsible for examining, reviewing and evaluating the information provided by all parties, assessing the customer’s risk profile and making an informed decision whether to offer or decline terms for Homeward Funding residential loan products according to the companies underwriting procedures, guidelines and time frames. Responsible for making recommendations within designated underwriting authority and ensuring accurate records are maintained at all times.
Job Functions:
• Exceptional Organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast- paced, high-volume environment keeping to required Service Level agreement standards.
• Well versed in all FNMA and FHLMC loan products, programs and guidelines.
• Ensure that all activities meet and exceed regulatory requirements in accordance with Investor, State and or Federal guidelines
• Keep up to date with any State, Federal, and Agency regulation changes as well as internal Company policies and procedures
• Identify trends or issues and make recommendations to improve the underwriting process, products or customer service
• Proficient in evaluating and analyzing complex income documentation including Personal and Business Tax Returns.
Qualifications
• High school diploma, GED or military experience equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with Conventional Underwriting with a minimum prior lending authority of $650,000.
• Must have thorough understanding of FNMA, FMLC guidelines and be proficient with DU and LP
• Strong analytical skills
• Sound decision making skills and ability to exercise judgment and make recommendations
• Excellent relationship building and customer service skills
• Highly organized and proven ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Results driven with great administration skills and attention to detail
• Strong written/verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Flexible team player with a ‘can do’ attitude
