Job Description:
This position oversees high impact and visible projects that get executed through the agile/lean methodologies. The Agile Coach is a significant member of the Agile Competency Center and facilitates a strong partnership with the Transformation Lead, the Business Owner and IT Owner of projects. This position drives the adoption, standardization and maturation of the agile/lean methodologies across the enterprise. The Agile Coach enables the project/program leadership and functional teams in ensuring the initiatives are executed as quickly as possible while also managing risk, stakeholders, and resources. The Agile Coach is outcome focused, and can demonstrate and speak to how certain agile/lean practices drive valuable business results.
Job Responsibilities:
Project Team Coaching
• Coach project leadership on design of project approach including the process, structure, and people
• Coach the business owner with setting and enforcing strategic direction for project (guiding principles, themes, and success metrics)
• Coach the team in the agile methodology and facilitate Minimum Viable Functionality (MVF) planning with business owner and technology lead
• Effectively work with Transformation Leads, Business Sponsors, Business Owners, and cross functional partners
• Look ahead to identify and resolve dependencies and large work efforts
• Provide senior leader updates regarding deployment progress, results and feedback regarding adoption of agile/lean practices
• Identify important issues and risks, as well as, recommend options for continuous improvement of agile usage
• Review project deliverables and artifacts to ensure quality, as well as adherence to PMO and agility standards
• Maintain processes, standards, and templates to assist agile project team members with onboarding to project
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
• Actively participate in building an enterprise-wide competency in agile deployment of projects to deliver business results faster
• Drive innovation by developing/acquiring new techniques/tasks/tools and applying those in projects; Actively share insights and opportunities for continuous improvement for the Agile Competency Center
• Drive balance between PMO and Program processes/standards and project needs/objectives
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years’ experience leading large projects, transformation efforts, process improvements, product implementations, systems development and integration efforts
• 5+ years of recent work experience using agile/lean practices and principles
• 2+ years training and coaching agile/lean at the program, portfolio and team levels, interacting with business and technical teams
• Proven ability to quickly learn complex business and/or technological concepts
• Ability to effectively navigate a highly-matrixed organization
• Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key executive-level stakeholders
• Ability to broker consensus in contentious or politically sensitive situations
• Proven ability to understand and lead assessment efforts across a portfolio or enterprise
• Ability to understand project and resource interdependencies within a program or portfolio
• Ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organization with clarity and precision
• Proven people-leadership skills to include coaching, guiding and performance management
• Demonstrated strategic skill-set: able to synthesize and translate internal and external customer inputs, business performance metrics and strategic directives into projects and action plans
• Results oriented: proven track record in delivering results
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal direction
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically, tactfully, and effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
• PC Skills: fluent in Microsoft Office applications
• Demonstrated ability to mitigate risks proactively and resolve issues; and escalate when appropriate
• Demonstrated ability to communicate to, negotiate with, and influence senior business leader
