Responsibilities
The Group Portfolio Managers (GPM) primary purpose is to ensure objectives related to internal portfolio management are met, in addition to overseeing the workflow of the Commercial Team of RMs and commercial lending associates. Additionally, the GPM will serve as the Group Head’s internal delegate. This position will provide approval within established guidelines for daily credit/portfolio administrative activity.
The Group Portfolio Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the following activities.
Primary responsibility for this position will be that of Portfolio Management.
• Attend Fit Assessment and Deal screen with Market Lead, RM and/or Group Head to jointly discuss the structure, risk and resources.
• Oversee timely preparation of Group’s portfolio responsibilities including portfolio reviews (quarterly and annually), 5 Risk Rated, Shared National Credit, CAMP, etc.
• Primary representative of Group in portfolio review meetings and will have knowledge of the risk points with the portfolio (portfolio concentration limits, portfolio mix, etc.)
• Manage workflow of direct reports. Works closely with team to navigate deals through the credit approval process. Act as resource for team on LP reviews.
• Provide career development and coaching to Commercial RM team.
• Attend Loan Committee meetings to support RMs/Market Leaders on behalf of Group Head and responsible for understanding potential credit.
• Advise on credit actions related to the existing portfolio (e.g., structure, waivers, modifications).
• Ensure reviews, renewals, and reporting are timely and oversee RMs to ensure risk ratings are accurate.
• Serve as the Group’s liaison with Credit.
• Provide guidance of the portfolio to oversee the deal through fulfillment.
• Resource to Group Head on status and progress of opportunities in the approval queue.
• Works with deal team members to identify and address bottlenecks/issues with moving a deal through the Credit and Loan Closing process.
• Advise RM and MLs on portfolio trends to facilitate consistency in deal structuring.
• Attend industry events to maintain current market knowledge.
• Maintain strong partnerships with other business functions/units (i.e. Private Wealth, cross-sell partners and loan services).
Qualifications
• College Degree / Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate preferred
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Banking as a Commercial Relationship Manager/Portfolio Manager or equivalent
• Ability to prove credit expertise within a specific commercial banking industry or vertical
• Formal Credit Training preferred
• Supervisory experience a plus
