Description
Great opportunity with TCF Bank. We are in search of a Underwriting Supervisor, located at our Plymouth Corporate Center. Manage the day-to-day work direction and supervision of a team within Retail Lending Underwriting. Responsible for managing the department workflow processes and functions. Activities include preparation of loan proposals, review of real estate collateral and title work, data verification and credit risk management. Oversee the performance of department staff and functions in an efficient and cost effective manner to meet department guidelines and objectives.
Major Areas of Accountability
• Supervise, train and coach a team of underwriting staff. Responsible for personnel functions including performance appraisals and other issues as they arise. Assist with interviewing and selection of staff.
• Assist in managing the daily activities of the department. Coordinate and set priorities, provide management with updates regarding underwriting issues, assist with implementation of new processes and changes related to audit findings.
• Review, analyze and approve workflow responsibilities (i.e., income verification, appraisal review, modification processing and/or loan reviews).
• Participate in the packaging of complex loan requests for management review. Provide emphasis on quality of analysis, risk assessment and identification of policy exceptions.
• Assist the area manager in developing and maintaining the operational procedures for the underwriting area. Recommend changes in procedures and processes that will enhance the efficiency of the department. Keep procedures up to date with current requirements and processes.
• Assist in the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly management reports and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Communicate policies and procedures to all staff within the lending division and the processing/servicing area. Ensure understanding and consistent implementation of policy, procedure and program changes.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.
• Minimum 5-10 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• 1-2 years of leadership experience including training, guiding, coordinating, and directing the work of others.
• Must have a strong knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and advanced knowledge of VA, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae underwriting guidelines and appraisal policies.
• Excellent analytical skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management and lending personnel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Encompass and Microsoft Office.
• Organizational skills with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and complete work within established deadlines.
Preferred:
• Direct supervision of assigned Underwriters.
