To ensure our continued success, we're looking for a seasoned professional to support our Government Savings Division to lead and deliver on the investment management responsibilities for Ascensus state savings programs.
The Vice President of Investment Management directly engages clients, external investment partners and teammates on a daily basis. This highly collaborative and highly visible investment role provides support to the Relationship Management team, Business Development efforts and other priorities. Designing and communicating investment lineups for state savings programs, along with preparing, delivering and interpreting investment data and resolving investment related issues will be the main responsibilities of this role. The ideal candidate will have in-depth investment product knowledge, particularly within the advisor channel, and will report directly to the Head of Government Savings.
Responsibilities
• Provide the organization with expertise / knowledge of the advisor channel and associated investment products for RFPs, pricing, and investment product development
• Research and critique underlying investments of 529 plans and Single State Retirement Plans
• Lead and collaborate the development of investment product strategies for state savings programs where Ascensus has Investment Management responsibilities (e.g. 529 Glide Paths or Retirement target date options)
• Conduct oversight of asset manager relationships in a manner that is consistent with the attainment of these strategies, and lead quarterly internal investment reviews
• Partner with and build relationships among key stakeholders, including relationship management, business development, legal, compliance, IT and marketing colleagues to ensure products are positioned effectively in the advisor/broker dealer space
• Foster outstanding relationships with all asset managers utilized by Ascensus, as well as third party rating agencies and consultants
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of firms offering institutional, mutual fund, and separately managed wrap account products
• Evaluate allocation mix, examine portfolio efficiency, and defend proposed solutions
• Remodel and implement departmental policies and procedures
• Attend, deliver, and convey investment opinions at select 529 Board meetings
• Craft client presentations, RFPs, fee analyses, investments disclosure and compliance reports
• Actively represent the investment management team with the appropriate acumen relative to fund line-ups, individual securities from the perspective of the investment advisor, broker/dealers and general investment oversight principles
• Provide comprehensive analysis of a broad range of competitor investment offerings and investment strategies to both internal and external constituents as needed
• Ensure compliance with all contractual and regulatory provisions associated with the investment management function
• Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients

Requirements:
• 10+ years’ experience in financial services industry, with some direct experience in the 529 industry/Public Sector preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required; attainment of or progress toward a professional designation (CFA/CIMA/CFP) preferred; advanced degrees including MSF or MBA a plus
• Must have the following Securities Licenses or be willing to obtain them within 6 months:
◦ FINRA Series 7 – General Securities Representative
◦ FINRA Series 24 or 26 – General or limited Securities Principal
◦ FINRA Series 51 or 53 – General or Limited Municipal Fund Securities Principal
• Must be able to work independently, multitask, meet deadlines, and thrive with minimal supervision
• Must be an expert at managing data using Excel and Morningstar Direct as well as highly skilled with PowerPoint and Word
• Solid understanding of portfolio performance calculations and ability to translate information into an understandable conversation
• Demonstrated track record of designing and implementing investment line-ups with various investments products such as municipal wrap securities and separately managed accounts
• Deep understanding of investment management marketplace and the advisor segment, including clients, products, regulations, competitors, trends and tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Experience presenting investment related issues in group meetings
• Exceptional creativity, with an ability to develop concepts and programs that “cut through the clutter” of the competitive advisor market
• Ability to negotiate and influence senior stakeholders
• Ability to assimilate to new experiences, learn quickly and absorb a steep growth curve
• Must be results oriented and move fast to meet client needs
• Travel may be necessary as business need arises
