Position Overview
The Senior Underwriter in the Structured Underwriting group is responsible for the underwriting and credit quality of multifamily structured loan production across the nation as well as structured customers. The Senior Director of Structured Underwriting and Credit is seeking a Senior Underwriter to evaluate and underwrite proposed loans for credit risk, negotiate and obtain loan approvals, oversee the preparation and issuing of commitments, and see each approved loan through to rate-lock. The Senior Multifamily Underwriter will work on diverse apartment lending transactions for which analysis of situation and data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including property cash flow and valuation, borrower credit, and real estate market trends. Many of the functions managed by the Senior Underwriter are time sensitive and require collaboration with both external customers, internal business partners and the leadership team to achieve shared success. The hired candidate will support underwriting as a team leader for the Structured Underwriting team.
Responsibilities Include:
• Apply credit policy and underwriting judgment appropriately to a wide variety of lending transactions.
• Evaluate proposed loans for credit risk, negotiate, and obtain deal approvals, oversee the preparation and issuing of commitments
• Responsibilities entail creating and/or finalizing pro formas, I&E and rent roll analysis, review of third party reports, working with producers to structure deals, review of borrower financial position, market analysis, property inspections, presenting deals for approval. Responsible for underwriting all property types, including conventional, seniors housing, affordable, manufactured housing, and student
• Collaborate on process efficiency initiatives. Recommend process improvements to policies and establish procedures that positively impact the organization's operation
• Travel around 25-35%
Qualifications
• Typically has 5 to 7+ years of Multifamily Underwriting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or related discipline
• Experience working in a fast paced environment and working independently
• Strong financial / analytical skills
• Exceptional Project Management skills (underwriters typically manage 6-12 deals simultaneously and must be extremely organized)
• Experience with appraisal review, financial analysis and income property valuation
• Prior experience conducting presentations
• Solid problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Ability to analyze and filter large amount of data quickly; strong attention to detail
• Moderate to strong Excel skills
• Property inspection experience

• MBA or advanced degree
• Targeted Affordable Housing experience
• Prior experience mentoring/coaching Analysts
• CMBS/Securitization experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
