The Fixed Income Portfolio Manager II The Fixed Income Portfolio Manager II is primarily responsible for managing taxable and tax exempt bond portfolios in a close collaborative effort with the Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager. Additionally, the position will manage mutual funds, common funds, and individual bond portfolios; develops and manages special projects in the fixed income management program.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages bond portfolios in concert with the Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager to maximize investment return commensurate with an acceptable level of risk; analyzes securities and portfolios to ensure adherence to investment objectives; maximizes investment returns within prospectus and internal guidelines; manages customer portfolios in compliance with the accounts legal or statutory guidelines.
2. Keeps informed of developments in the security markets, using fundamental and/or technical research to arrive at sound and timely investment decisions. Maintains relationships with fixed income brokers, executes trades across all fixed income sectors, and recommends profitable investment strategies to fixed income fund manager.
3. Understand and follow rigid compliance requirements due to significant regulatory and reporting requirements for bond mutual funds and the SEC. Standards set by the SEC, mutual fund prospectus, Moodys and S&P are to be exceeded.
4. Assists in setting investment strategy for the department i.e. asset allocation; assists in the review and revision of investment policy and procedures.
5. Assists in annual credit review of all bonds held in discretionary accounts, current holdings and new issuers. Each company in which we have a position must have our own internally generated credit review, which would include standard statistical information, industry review, and recommendation regarding company’s debt securities. Position also responsible for updating and maintaining credit files.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of credit analysis and economic analysis
• Working knowledge of fixed income securities, trading, delivery, and accounting.
• CFA designation or progress toward degree desired
• Very strong oral, written and communication skills, including interpersonal skills
• Excellent PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications
This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Business and 2-4 years portfolio management experience or 8-10 years equivalent experience in financial markets.
