POSITION SUMMARY:
The Corporate Controller’s group is comprised of the Investment Accounting and Reporting, Global Financial Services and Fund Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Accounting Policy, Metrics and Controls, Finance Operations, and Corporate Tax sub-groups.
The Investment Accounting, Forecasting, and Analytics team is part of the Investment Accounting and Reporting team. This group of professionals is responsible for the investment projection process for all invested assets held within the TIAA General Account. In addition, the team has various oversight responsibilities for the Corporate Other-Than-Temporary-Impairment (OTTI) processes, the TIAA Valuation Committee as working group members and committee administrators, and act as the primary liaison between TIAA and the NAIC Securities Valuation Office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The Investment Accountant I position will primarily be responsible for contributing to the investment projections process for all invested assets held in the TIAA General Account. Working with the Senior Investment Accountant, this individual will assist with the preparation of forecast vs. actual analytics, on an ongoing basis, for senior leadership. In addition, the individual will assist with the preparation of other management reporting related to the TIAA general account and separate accounts investment portfolios. Additionally, the individual will assist with the management and administration of the OTTI processes across all invested assets of the general account, and be a member of the advisory group that prepares analytics in support of the TIAA Valuation Committee.
1.Assist the Senior Investment Accountant with the preparation of investment projections for the $250+ billion of invested asset held in the TIAA General Account. This includes responsibility for all investment types and portfolios including fixed-income securities, equity securities, mortgage loans, real estate properties, partnership/LLC investments, derivatives and others.
2.Assist with the development of high quality presentations of investment projection results to senior leadership including ALCO working group, ALCO, and members of the EMT.
3.Interact with, develop, and maintain critical business partner relationships across the organization order to effectively execute on the consolidated investment projections processes. Interaction with individuals in the following areas is expected: Actuarial, Financial Risk Management, GA CIO, Asset Management Risk, Portfolio Management, CFP&A, and the Business Finance Office.
4.Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to better execute the process to analyzing forecasted results versus actual results.
5.Assist teammates and management with the administration of the OTTI processes across all invested assets of the TIAA and TC Life general accounts and separate accounts. This includes assistance with the preparation of agendas, attending committee meetings, taking effective meeting minutes, and the maintenance of Company documentation in accordance with control requirements.
6.Assist with the development and preparation of analytics and presentations to the TIAA Valuation Committee.
7.Perform ad-hoc reporting to fulfill requests from business partners
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills, certification(s), degree(s) and/or license(s):
• Bachelor’s degree in management, accounting, finance, or economics required
• 0-3 years of experience with statutory accounting and/or reporting, including experience within the insurance industry
• A basic understanding of capital markets and investments
• Knowledge of statutory (SSAP) and/or GAAP including the ability to analyze, interpret and apply relevant guidance as necessary.
• Ability to effectively perform research of complex accounting topics from various authoritative guidance sources.
Desired Skills:
• Master’s degree in accounting or finance or MBA
• CPA or CPA Eligible
• 1-3 years of relevant financial services experience
• A track record of superior problem solving and decision making skills with guidance from management.
• Previous experience with ePAM, PeopleSoft, and/or Oracle Business Intelligence Tools
• Thorough analytical skills
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
