Position Overview
Legg Mason is seeking an experienced leader to manage the long-term strategy and day to day administration of the Investment Group within Legg Mason’s Alternative Distribution Strategies (ADS) team. Reporting to the Global Head of ADS, the Head of Investments Program Management works closely with the other areas of ADS and the investment team of Legg Mason’s multi-asset affiliate, QS Investors, to manage the investment programs for Legg Mason’s fintech affiliates as well as managing a team responsible for in-depth knowledge of Legg Mason and competitor products and how those products are incorporated into portfolios.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to
• Fintech Investment Strategy
◦ Lead the development and maintenance of the investment programs for the ADS fintech offerings including asset allocation structure, investment model mapping, investment selection and re-balancing and strategic and tactical asset allocation updates by partnering with Legg Mason’s affiliate, QS Investors
◦ Acts as the liaison with key internal and external business partners to represent ADS’ investment program
◦ Coordinate the weekly Investment Committee Meeting by gathering and communicating the information and framing of issues regarding the fintech investment programs
◦ Alert/confer with shared services such as legal, compliance, technology and marketing regarding the fintech investment platform and any investment program changes
• Product Insights and Communication
◦ Leads analytical support efforts through research and data-mining to support sales and marketing initiatives
◦ Sets framework for providing education and documentation on how Legg Mason and competitor products fit into portfolios and explain the expected product outcomes through risk analytics, stress testing and factor-based modeling
◦ Collaborates with Product, Global Marketing and Communications, and Sales partners to develop process to select strategic products meeting current capital market challenges/opportunities, solving for client needs and having strength in performance for inclusion in strategic annual sales plans
◦ Lead the team responsible for the development of investment strategy positioning, performance context, and sales messaging for multi-asset strategy suite
• Competitive Analytics
◦ Set the overall strategy and framework for the reporting and analyzing how internal and external strategies differ
◦ Guide the Competitive Analytics team in developing tools and reports on products and/or portfolios with the goal of providing better transparency into how Legg Mason products offer better solutions for our clients
◦ Act as the senior relationship manager for analytical tool providers to Legg Mason
◦ Refines and implements metrics to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the competitive analytics provided by the team
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Finance or Economics, or related field required
• CFA Charter holder or equivalent postgraduate training or experience required
• Series 7, 24 and 63/66 licenses required
• 10-15 years of experience related to analytical work and portfolio construction
• Progress toward MBA or graduate degree in Finance or Economics, or related field would be an asset
• Strong understanding investment industry, products, and regulatory guidelines and environment impacting industry. Excels at synthesizing information to identify client or industry trends/issues as well as investment contemporary investment topics relevant to client discussions
• Proficiency in various risk based research systems and reporting (ex. Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg Point, MPI Stylus and Factset) required
• Strong analytical skills with an extensive knowledge of sales process
• Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking abilities
• Ability to articulate investment ideas and discuss relevance to market professionals
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to interact with clients as necessary.
• Strong project management skills, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines.
• Team Player with ability to work cross functionally
• Ability to travel 25% of time
