The Corporate & Funding Business Technology Officer (BTO) is a role within the Technology organization responsible for ensuring the technology infrastructure is capable of meeting or exceeding the requirements set by the business CIO management team, Enterprise Technology & Risk (ETR) technology strategy, and firm policies and procedures. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Office of the BTO, this role is responsible for all facets of infrastructure delivery to the CIO and their associated Business lines including:
• Identification of opportunities for synergies and applying new ETR offerings.
• Understanding the Corporate and Funding Technology (CFT) application spaces
• Requirements collection
• Solutions development
• Overall program and project prioritization
• Oversight of operational delivery
• Financial and Resource Planning
This role is a key position in the Enterprise Technology & Risk organization that delivers infrastructure services to all of Morgan Stanley globally. This position is a senior level position (Executive Director) covering:
• The Corporate & Funding Technology Division which provides technology to Morgan Stanley?s shared services business made up of Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Services, Operations, Human Resources, and Finance departments
The BTO role ensures application and infrastructure strategies are aligned with business priorities and aids in the delivery of production services to meet business needs.
• Engage with CFT application teams as a solution engineer when called upon, helping with and guiding the design of system architectures for optimum delivery and efficient operation. Analyze the problem space, investigate potential solutions and deliver proof of concept solutions to demonstrate their suitability.
• Effectively ?straddle the line? while participating in client initiatives, represent ETR requirements, capabilities and constraints in a constructive manner; while participating in infrastructure initiatives, champion BU and Application Team requirements, capabilities and constraints in a similar manner.
• Ensure effective delivery of the major ETR initiatives, including prioritizing effort, identifying interlocking initiatives, and coordinating stakeholder involvement.
• Drive the infrastructure components of critical initiatives in CFT to ensure ETR resources are focused on the priority areas and leadership is fully engaged in all significant decisions.
• Bi-directional Infrastructure Footprint Management: Collate and communicate business forecasts to ETR, as well as provide ETR capabilities to CFT, facilitate regular reporting and meetings to help the system owners understand and manage their infrastructure capacity and cost.
• Ensure alignment with ETR Product Management best practice standards, initiative prioritization, service management and solution engineering.
• Lead multi-channel communication including presentations, training, events, web sites, etc. Ensure there?s a communication plan customized by the audience (corporate leadership, CIOs, department and super-department heads, technical level, etc.).
• Follow-up on key open issues and requests.
Qualifications
Skills Required:
As this role requires a high degree of team building and complex stakeholder management, the skills of the individual are paramount to the success of the role. The successful candidate would be able to demonstrate strong skills in quickly grasping how to navigate data sources, working with large amounts of data (perhaps even using simple scripts to manipulate data) and an analytical mind to interpret data (to ask the right questions and then find out the answers).
• Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with users and colleagues outside of home location.
• Relationship building: Strong customer service focus, including a proven ability to respond effectively to customer needs and work collaboratively with senior clients.
• Technical knowledge:
◦ Strong technical infrastructure knowledge.
◦ Experience with large scale distributed systems architectures
◦ Familiarity with architecture patterns that are suitable for variety of business problems such as those that are compute intensive or latency sensitive or require processing of large amounts of data
Nice to have skills:
• Knowledge of data technology including database systems and end-user analytical tools
• Experience in emerging technologies such as containers and cloud computing in the context of enterprise systems
• Good understanding of the back office business functions
• Knowledge of mainframe technologies and principles
