Position summary:
Our Information Technology Organization is seeking an Internal Business Consultant join our Business Consulting Team in our Worcester, MA office.
Summary:
The Business Consulting team combines program management disciplines with process engineering methodologies, financial analysis, business expertise, and industry best practices to collaborate with business leaders in an objective assessment of the operating environment, with the goal to provide and implement recommendations for operational improvement.
This role is responsible for the collection and analysis of business objectives, processes and procedures, and operational data in support of business unit customers. This professional will gather sufficient strategic, technical and operational information from internal business units and external vendors to ultimately understand and communicate the current business challenges and issues. In addition, this professional will incorporate internal and external best practices to recommend, design, and deliver process-based solutions and/or operational metrics.
In addition, this person is expected to work independently with minimal supervision, focus on multiple business units and business processes having moderate enterprise integration, have a broad knowledge of internal and external best practices, potentially lead the activities of other team members, and be proficient in all dimensions of the job.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Analysis
• Gather and assess business requirements in order to identify key performance indicators that align with the business challenges, opportunities, and long term vision.
• Conduct an assessment of the current-state business operations to identify gaps, opportunities, and threats to achieving long-term success.
• Provide insight into current business opportunities based on an understanding of internal and external best practices.
• Provide multiple options for reviewing and assessing alternative solutions and cost models.
Design
• Apply the results of the analysis activities to drive and generate one or more future-state designs, incorporating stated business requirements and critical success factors. Designs may include the process maps, business workflow, operating models, and operational dashboards.
• When warranted, develop a working prototype of the business solution.
• Refine business requirements as determined based on design considerations or prototypes.
• Develop and communicate an implementation plan and/or roadmap of future opportunities, deliverables, and timelines.
Delivery
• Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the business solution, including solution development and validation.
• Provide project status reports to business sponsor, management, and project teams.
• Facilitate change management activities with business sponsor, including communication and implementation planning.
• Ensure the successful implementation and ongoing management of the business solution.
• Successfully transfer ownership of all relevant documentation and acquired knowledge to the business sponsor.
• Facilitate post-implementation quality reviews and lessons learned sessions.
Measurement and Governance
• Identify business performance and operational metrics based on stated objectives.
• Establish data collection and archiving procedures.
Develop key performance indicator framework and monitor business outcomes.
• Facilitate the implementation of quality-based process audits, process management, and continuous process improvement activities.
• Drive improvements to business processes that affect a single operating unit.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 or more years of equivalent experience
Lean Six Sigma and/or PMP preferred
• Demonstrates strong financial acumen
Has strong Data Analysis skills
• Demonstrates a "can do" spirit, a sense of optimism, ownership, and commitment.
• Can apply analytical techniques, e.g., separating a complex whole into its parts or elements to resolve problems or issues, to review the business impact of markets, trends, issues, technologies, economies, and competition.
• Has strong project management and process engineering experience.
• Has a solid understanding of project and process measures, and Service Level Agreements when applicable.
• Uses professional or technical expertise to advise, intervene, and/or influence a business partner.
• Manages, motivates, and leads project teams to meet work objectives; consults, responds to, and communicates with customers to manage expectations and to set priorities; quickly and objectively identify and resolves conflict; collaborates, influences, and negotiates with internal and external entities
• Ability to easily adapt to new, different, or changing situations, requirements, or priorities.
• Can objectively consider issues and information, identify alternatives, decide and implement solution approaches in order to deliver services and provide value.
